TLDR : Answer Summary
Americans living in Thailand are looking for countries with fast visa application processing times. Many favor Taipei for its same-day approval and next-day pickup. Others share experiences, suggesting Washington DC takes about three weeks. Conversely, Vientiane, Laos is warned against due to long waiting times compared to Savannakhet. Jakarta is also mentioned as a good option, despite varied experiences in the region.

vietnam and Cambodia have switched to evisa, which as far as I understand is locals only, but could test on the evisa site. Taipei people are also saying is good, I just want to check out Jakarta anyway.

I’ve read a good article on laos. People are saying it’s bad, which I think is because so many people are applying. But it has a good setup with photo copiers etc. And can just book again if the first falls through. But not as good feedback as Jakarta and Taipei.

Not VIETENE LAOS, ITS TERRIBLE.

I'm heading to Savannahkhet where I already got a appointment in one day vs 25 days in Vietene

you have to check the vientiane booking calendar EVERY day because they add appointments all the time and you might snap one this week

BUT you're correct, Vientiane is far busier than Savannakhet πŸ™‚

I believe there was a 1 week delay when Thailand announced a clarification to the requirements, otherwise, it probably would have been 2 weeks like others experience before I submitted an application.

Yeah, I guess it's fine if you're living in the country you apply in and aren't in any rush to travel to Thailand.

Which DTV option are you applying for? There are a lot of posts detailing what they gave to Taipei for the workcation option and also Taipei office is very responsive to emails.
