Can anyone on here confirm if a South Africa Passport holder can apply for an ED visa in Yangon? From what I can find it seems like we can, just want to make sure that I am correct?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A South African passport holder can apply for an ED visa at the Thai consulate in Yangon if they have the necessary documentation from their school and meet the requirements listed on the official website. However, the approval of the visa may depend heavily on the applicant's previous visa history in Thailand; those with a pattern of back-to-back tourist or visa-exempt entries may face more scrutiny compared to those who have not previously lived in Thailand on other visas.

As a rule there is no problem getting an ED visa from the thai consulate in Yangon as long as you have the documentation from your school AND you follow the requirements on the website for that visa.

BUT with that being said;

Your previous entry history has a LOT to do with whether you're gonna get an ED visa or not. If you have been living here on back-2-back visa exempt or tourist visa entries for a while and now decided to study something to further your stay here your application will be looked at with a much more critical eye than a person who didn't live here on other visas before switching to an ED visa

Good Luck, only you know your entry history, so I'd say you're on your own (y)

Keith has chosen NOT to answer my above questions..They are very important questions to know the answers.

We do not want to recommended that he go to a Consulate... only to be denied. So added information is needed.

I suggest you get a plan B for the correct Visa for your long stay in Thailand. Good Luck😉

Keith ...

You are South African ...

How long have you lived in Thailand?

In 2018 in months?

In 2019 in months?

SE Asian Thai Consulates are now looking very closely at Ed Visa applicants history of living in Thailand...and some are denying them if you have a history of using visas, exempt arrivals and extensions to live in Thailand.

...?

Where should a South African go to get Ed Visa?

You only get in country ED visa if you enroll in University education. Language schools, muay thai trainings camps etc do not qualify for this.

There are quite a few South Africans living in CM who have Edu visas studying Thai. It’s just tricky for the second year. The ones I’ve spoken to are at language schools not uni, so I’m curious re your comment above. Is this a very recent change? Do you know where this is written?

Seems to be possible to get an ed visa without even leaving Thailand, just have to apply at least 22 days before tourist stamp expires (so within the first week of arriving on a 30 day stamp), according to the school I registered at yesterday.

Sending papers from Ao Nang to Krabi, where the immigration office is? Within 45 minutes you can bring them by motorbike and be back home to have a drink
Nick *******
check with your school, that 22 includes sending paperwork from Ao Nang and waiting to receive it back in the mail, so it may be much shorter in Bangkok

All countries in Africa (except Morocco and Tunisia)

who do not have Foreign Registration Certificate (FRC) are therefore not considered residents of Myanmar and cannot apply for visa at the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon; they are advised to apply for Thai visa at their countries of residence.
