I've been looking up information regarding getting an ED-visa in Yangon, Burma. And one of the rules is that you have a plane ticket to Thailand (per their page: "You MUST have a copy of your airline ticket flying into Thailand to be granted a Thai visa"). Does this mean you need a ticket from the last time you came to Thailand? Or that you need to purchase a ticket flying back into Thailand just after you get the visa? What does this mean?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain an ED visa in Yangon, you must provide proof of a flight ticket to Thailand, which indicates a planned entry to the country after receiving the visa. It's not necessary to show a ticket from your last visit; instead, you need a ticket for when you intend to travel to Thailand after the visa is issued.

it is time to close commenting, if you like to live and stay inside Thailand, play by the rules and regulations of Thailand.

You need to prove your GOING TO thailand once they give you the visa. NOT proof of onward travel PROOF of going to thailand after they issue the visa you to.

that's reasonable. Only...why would someone get a Thai visa if they were not going to Thailand? o.O

i hope you did read other comments on this page that people already have a history of living in Thailand, did get their Non Immigrant ED visa denied in Yangon. People without a history of stamps from Thailand in their passports had no problem.

Tom Wanzer they do care, that's the whole point. This is no different than a country like the US or Australia.

In short, whilst a visa agency maybe able to help you get a visa...they can not gaurantee that immigration will grant entry....so no they can not help essentially.

Get the correct visa that allows you to live here..retirement, marriage, working or Elite

Get the correct visa, pay taxes, social security and please do not think than your small contribution into Thailand's economy is keeping this country on their feet.

are there some visa running services that would give me a better chance at getting a visa? And why is this country so hit-and-miss? What purpose does it serve them to deny people staying here? Even if they got 1000 tourist visas? If they're making free money from them, what do they care?

Tom Wanzer it does not really matter what you say - it matters what your history shows.

Immigration will assess your previous entries and how long you have been in Thailand - and will either grant or deny entry. They have denied more and more recently, even with ED visas.

The people denied recently said too that they were genuinely studying, and had the cash to prove funds, but were still denied. It's a real crap shoot as to whether you get denied.

Remember having the visa does not grant entry, immigration does at the entry point.

I'm not here to stay @#!% longer. I actually want to learn the language. And have been studying it for the past few months already.

There are times when you have to make a choice, with no apparent clear indications of the right way way to go. Living in Thailand using the Tourist Visa came to an end, the choice to change to the Non Immigrant ED visa did not came on the right moment as denials of applications are all over the region at the moment. Maybe it is time for plan B.

Tom Wanzer even if you manage to get an ED visa, it does not mean immigration will allow you entry - they have denied others for using it to live in Thailand. Refused entry.

It will come down to how much time you have already spent in Thailand, and their mood on the day... it's no longer a case people can use ED visas to stay longer in Thailand.

and I have been taking Thai classes, because I really do want to learn the language. If they were to quiz me, I would be able to speak at least some Thai.

well I have a ton of tourist visas. Any suggestions where to go?

As the Single Entry Visa's are only valid for 3 months almost every Thai Embassy or Consulate ask you to show a ticket of when you travel to Thailand to avoid that you travel after the valid until date mentioned on the visa.

Robert Lagas a ticket for traveling back to Thailand? Or a ticket for when I first traveled to Thailand?
Robert *******
you need to show a ticket to Thailand valid between the day you apply for the visa and maximum 3 months later.
