TLDR : Answer Summary
The question addresses the status of South Africans in relation to the Non-Immigrant ED Visa, specifically whether they are still deemed 'undesirable.' Responses indicate that meeting the requirements at the Thai Consulate is essential, and that applicants, especially those with a history of back-to-back visa applications, may undergo additional scrutiny. It is also suggested to review relevant posts on the topic for further assistance.

In Malaysia yes, (except maybe Kota Bharu), in Lao you're fine.

how about stating where you are in thailand and what schools you asked? AFAIK there's no problem for south african passport holders to get an ED visa from the thai consulates in Lao, Yangon or Vietnam. It's only Penang and Kualal Lumpur Malaysia that are hard core and won't deal with S/A passport holders.

you're missing the point; it's not about the ED visa itself but whether or not South Africans can still apply. I was on an ED visa now until mid-September but received information from my school that South Africans can longer apply for ED visas. I followed this up at various other schools and all came back with he same answer.

Meet the requirements at the Thai Consulate you go to ...you get the Ed Visa. But if you are on many back to back visas...exempt entries with extensions then all applicants are carefully screened. If it's a request for second Ed Visa you can expect to be tested at the Thai Consulate before Ed Visa granted for Thai language. Read Ed Visa Topic posts on this forum for added assist.
