TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the application process for an ED visa at the Thai embassy in Hong Kong, with insights from community members about their experiences. Applicants should choose a school that assists with visa applications and be prepared for a straightforward procedure that includes obtaining an approval letter from the Thai government. It’s emphasized that the ED visa can be longstanding, especially for university studies, though there are challenges associated with language schools. Community members stress the importance of confirming the embassy's name and procedures.
ED visa to study at a uni = no problem for 4-6 years. BA-anything in a Thai uni. 9 credits per semester (9 classroom hours per week - 32 weeks per academic year).
BA in Thai if you legitimately want to learn the language. Most Thai unis are under 50k baht per year and the visa extensions are good for a year at a time not 90-day stretches. You just need to show your transcripts and enrollment confirmation each year.
ED visa to study at a Thai Language center... it is problematic and full of hassles due to flagrant misuse of the visa. Good for a year or maybe 2 on 90-day extensions.
Thanks dave, it would be a language school, it is to learn the language as it would be too easier regarding living here, my partners thai and her mums non english speaking, along with friends of mine aren't great, i would love to learn more thai and have less stress of having to leave so often. Thanks for your info
Hi Josh, used to be the case that you could get them for up to 3 years back to back. But there's been a lot of abuse of this visa type lately so the authorities are tightening up and the goalposts can be moved at any time.
Ok thats straight forward, i already have the school i will be studying with, it will be the long term as i live here already but need to get something more long term versus multi tourist visa, and i want to learn the language better as my partner is thai. Can you do back to back ed visa's ? and thanks for all your help, its highly appreciated
yeah i am aware that you extend every 3 months, i knew that much, i was mainly wondering if i could apply for a 12 month and then reapply for another 12 month after
You apply for the Ed visa and 30 days before the Admitted to Stay date you got on entry, you visit the Immigration Office in your area and apply for an Extension of Stay based on Education with documents from your school, No need to leave and apply every 3 months for a new ED visa.
