Hello all , I have a question . I am a UK citizen my wife is Thai and we have an 8 week old baby with a UK passport. Is it possible for baby to enter Thailand on her UK passport then apply for her birth certificate and Thai passport in Thailand and then leave six months later on her Thai one . Thanks in advance .

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen baby, whose Thai mother and UK father are traveling to Thailand, can enter on her UK passport. It is recommended to apply for her Thai birth certificate and passport while in Thailand, although some suggest obtaining it in the UK beforehand. The baby will receive a 45-day stamp upon entry and will not be fined for overstaying as a child. It’s also noted that if the baby was born in the UK, she may be eligible for dual citizenship. The process may require translations and certification from the Thai consulate.

If the baby was born in the UK while you were both married does that entitle them to dual citizenship like it does here when our kids are born in Thailand and have foreign fathers?

If so, I would get the Thai passport too while your all in the UK.

We done this the other way round. Got both UK and Thai passports here in Thailand.

How do you apply for a birth certificate in Thailand when the baby was born in the UK?

If she is born in the UK, she will need to get her Thai birth certificate from the Thai Embassy in the UK. You can do it from Thailand, by sending the required documents though. As others have said she can just stay here on visa exempt as they won't fine or ban her as she's under age.

Your baby will be stamped in for 45 days but don't worry about the overstay. Children are never fined and she won't enter Thailand again on that passport.

She will need to leave on the one she came in on. But that won't be any problem at all. But definitely do any translating and get things certified at the Thai consulate because that will save some time.

Get your child's uk birth cert translated before you leave to Thai... if you have time... I got mine child's done in London embassy a few weeks back and am in Thailand now.. passport took 4 days to process for our kid.....

You did very well getting a UK passport for an 8 week old baby - some UK passports are taking ages to be issued. Presumably the baby was born in the UK? The best thing would be to get her Thai passport before taking her to Thailand, if you are all in the UK now.

I was thinking the same thing! I've got a 10 week old still waiting for his passport!

You need to get an exit stamp on the passport you entered on.

After that you can travel with whatever passport you want.

ok so a border run to Laos and return on her Thai passport?

should be fine

AFAIK you can only switch passports when traveling by air. Not at land borders. I believe immigration in surrounding countries want to see your stamp for leaving Thailand and will stamp you in to that country on that passport

Thank you Brandon , I think we will go down that route as it could take till February here in the uk to get her passport

if you don't have a need to do a border run, there's no reason to do one just for the child. Children cannot be fined for overstay until they're older, and they also can't be banned for overstay. They'll just get an overstay stamp in their passport which won't effect anything.
