Hi Guys

what do we do after our child is born in Thailand ?

I am on a retirement extension

and my wife has an extension linked to mine.

1) does our child need a visa to leave the country

2) what type of visa / extension does my child need?

3) What setps do we need to take?

4) will we need money in the bank for whatever visa our child needs?

TLDR : Answer Summary
After the birth of a child in Thailand, expats should follow these steps: Register the birth and ensure you have a Thai birth certificate; get the birth certificate translated into English; obtain a passport for the child, preferably a temporary one for immediate travel; and be aware that children can enter Thailand without a visa until they are 12 years old. If the child is simply leaving the country for the first time, they can use the birth certificate to show at Passport Control. An official visa may not be necessary until the child leaves Thailand and returns, allowing a potential overstay without penalties for children under 15.

Get the child a passport as soon as you can. They won't need a visa until or if they enter Thailand after leaving for the first time. As others have said, they can enter as visa exempt and then overstay as there is no fine or ban for kids overstaying. However they do get an overstay stamp in their passport.

If you don't plan leaving Thailand for a while, the child doesn't need any stamp in their passport. The first time they leave you will need to show the Thai birth certificate at Passport Control at the airport and they stamp the passport.

Congrats, mate ! Translate Thai birth certificate into English. Register birth with your embassy. Get the kid a (temporary) passport. Good luck.

Kids born in Thailand travels in and out with no visa until 12years old. My kids don't get visa. Just overstays and gets stamped in and out. Just bring copy of thai birth certificate

Delta airlines would not allow our daughter on the plane from USA to Thailand without a visa. She was going with her mom to stay for two months. So we used the Thai passport then they let her on the plane.

Official the baby needs her/his own visa, but as we know that children till the age of 15 years are not fined for being on overstay, people choose that route.
