Hi, just wanted to double check something, I recently had a baby in Thailand and don't have a passport for him yet. Am I able to travel internally with him as long as I have his Thai birth certificate? Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can travel internally in Thailand with just your baby's Thai birth certificate. Many expats have confirmed that this is sufficient for domestic travel. However, if planning to travel internationally later, you'll need to obtain a passport for your baby.

You can travel internally with just the (Thai) birth certificate. If you're British, getting the baby a UK passport (in Thailand) is easy and only takes a few weeks. There is no DNA test; just the baby's birth certificate and the British parent's birth certificates.

You most certainly don't need a DNA test ! You present all the relevant paperwork and go through the process. It's very easy.

If you're British you don't have to register a foreign birth. A translated birth certificate is sufficient for getting a passport.

America tends to be stricter about these sorts of things, we've already spoken with our embassies concerning passports and have been told that we do not need to apply (for temporary passports) until we have an actual date we are leaving the country, although we plan to apply earlier.

Ok thanks everyone. I understand he'll need a passport if we go out of Thailand but was unsure if he needs one if we only travel within Thailand. Perhaps we'll be better of with the train!
