TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of obtaining a British passport for a Thai child involves submitting the application through VFS Global, located in Bangkok. Applicants will need an authorized translation of the Thai birth certificate as the child was not born in the UK. Although the process is generally straightforward, it may require some time due to potential COVID-19 related delays. It is advised to gather all necessary documents and consider whether to hire an agent, as many expats recommend handling the application directly to avoid extra fees.

Normal passport application. If you need an agent you need a doctor.

Trendy Office Building Bangkok deals with UK passports and no agent fee.

I'm British.... I renewed my passport last year through "Assist Thai"....The process took less then 3 weeks... I renewed to the jumbo passport (84 pages) in all with passport price 6000 baht.

It's straightforward but you will have to wait for VFS to re-open. You can't get a UK birth certificate as the baby was not born in the UK. You just need an authorised translation of the baby's Thai birth certificate. It took me around 3 weeks to get my baby's passport but I fear that once they reopen it will take longer now. The passport is actually issued by HMPO in Liverpool.

I did mine about a year ago, cost around 2.5k to get docs translated and a trip to Bangkok. All in all a quick and easy process, defo not worth paying agent fees

You need to go to VFS Global at the Trendy building in Bangkok. They are currently shut due to covid19.

I did mine about 4yrs ago. Just make sure you've got copies of everything. I'm sure colour copies were preferred.

Do not pay an agent.

My baby girl was born in Abu Dhabi. I was given 2 birth certificates for her. One in Arabic, and one in English. You need the English translation, copies of your passport plus ID, and your wife's. Also, your marriage certificate, and proof she wasn't married before.

I did it all by online application from Abu Dhabi, and sent the documents by courier.

It's straight forward. Just follow the online instructions.

It took me 8 weeks to receive my daughter's British passport. I would have got it sooner, but I neglected to provide the proof my wife had not been married before. After I provided the certificate they released the passport.

There definitely isn't a mountain of paperwork, just the passport application, witnessed photos and birth certificate. You might need to produce yours to show right to UK citizenship I think but that's about it.
