TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for registering a newborn at the UK Embassy involves translating the Thai birth certificate into English and potentially legalizing it through the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. While some expats state that registration with the embassy is unnecessary for birth purposes, it can be beneficial for obtaining a Notification of Birth. For obtaining a UK passport, the embassy accepts a translated birth certificate, provided the father is listed. It's advised to consider getting both a UK and a Thai passport for the child, facilitating dual nationality.

Getting a passport and registering the birth are two separate things. Although much of the paperwork (and translation) appears to be the same. I just applied for U.K. passports for both by sons. We all use

Register the birth with the UK Consulate ...... you will get a Notification of Birth from them... get a few originals... apply for a Uk passport for the baby. At the same time get the baby a Thai passport. A duel national..... it's easy to do

Nope. No need to register the birth and passports are issued through VFS Global not the British Embassy.

my words exactly what I did

There is no need to register the birth, with the embassy it serves no purpose.

Yes, as

says. Not necessary to register the birth. A translation of the Thai birth certificate will be needed eventually when you apply for the child's UK passport.

The basic story is that you need to get the Thai birth certificate translated into English. After that, it seems like different European countries have different requirements. It seems like the UK is happy with just a translated birth certificate to issue a UK passport as long as you are listed as the father. The full/bigger story is to get the birth certificate legalized first at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and afterward at your Embassy. This is the recommended procedure as this way will give the best legal status. The Thai MFA has requirements for the translation into English, but you can have it done in the hall of the MFA in about 1-2 hours. You might very well do/need the same with your marriage certificate to prove that your baby is born in marriage.

I had this problem 6 months ago so basically I asked them the same you don't need to register at the UK as baby goes into Thai registrations UK will get updated but if you want a UK passport then there's a difficult process to do
