My grandaughter and friends are coming to Thailand in August and unsure how long they woukd like to stay .
If they enter Thailand on 30 day visa free can they go to immigration if they want to stay after 30 days and apply for an extension?
They are from Australia 👍

TLDR : Answer Summary
Visitors from Australia are eligible for a 30-day visa-free entry to Thailand. They can apply for a one-time extension of 30 days at an immigration office. However, for stays longer than 30 days, it is usually easier and more cost-effective to obtain a 60-day tourist visa prior to arrival through the e-visa system, which simplifies the process and avoids the need for an extension.
If they have a passport from a country eligible for visa exempt, then they can receive a 30 day entry stamp and can apply one time for a 30 day extension.
But it's much simpler to apply for a tourist visa through the evisa system if they want to come for more than 30 days. Then they won't have to spend a day at the immigration office and the visa also costs less than the 1900 baht you pay for an extension.
