Hello, all!

Does anyone have recent experience applying for DTV through the Los Angeles, CA Thai embassy? I am wondering if someone could share their experience and what the timeline looked like for you.

For context, I applied for DTV on March 30, 2025, received a request for additional documentation on April 8th and submitted the docs on April 9th. Since then, I have not heard back at all. I understand Songkran occurred in the middle of the month and immigration offices were likely closed, which could have slowed the progress of my application. I am scheduled to depart for Thailand this week and am growing concerned that I will not receive a response before my flight.

Lastly, is it likely that in the event of rejection, that my application's status would also get updated? It's difficult to plan accordingly when there is zero response, positive or negative.

Thanks for everyone's time in reading and responding. Have a great day, all!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their experience applying for a DTV visa at the LA Thai Embassy, mentioning their application timeline and concern over communication delays. They applied on March 30, 2025, received a request for additional documents on April 8, and submitted those on April 9, but have not heard back since. Other users responded with advice, suggesting contacting the embassy via social media for quicker responses, clarifying processing times, and confirming that one can enter on a visa waiver pending approval, allowing for a border run once the visa is granted.

You don’t need it approved before you fly. You could arrive and enter on the visa waiver. Then when your visa is approved, do a quick border run. You don’t need to stay outside Thailand overnight because the purpose of the border run is to activate your DTV visa.

looks like it took you a total of 31 business days. Does that sound about accurate? Thanks for your response!

For most embassies, if they ask for more information, the timer starts over again once you submit that information. The LA consulate very normally takes the full 15 business days to process applications. So by my math, with Songkran and Easter, you're only about 8 business days since you submitted the additional information.

I would do like the other person suggested and message them on Facebook. That's your best bet.

Yes, I followed that advice and sent a message already. As today is a Sunday, I will patiently wait for a response during business hours. Thanks again!

If the Consulate is on Facebook send them a message as this tends to get better responses than email
