Should I fly to Cambodia to apply for a new Vietnam eVisa while waiting for my DTV?

Mar 7, 2025
I'm from the US. I'm in Hanoi and my visa only allows me here for 12 days. I didn't realize they would restrict my visa days here to what I listed on the vietnam evisa application instead of giving me a flat 90 days.

That said, should I fly to Cambodia and apply for a new Vietnam Evisa while I wait for my DTV? I dont think I'm allowed to extend my Vietnam evisa here even though it's short. I applied for DTV March 4th and submitted additional info on March 6th. Now it's been pending. Im worried they might request an interview while Im waiting for a new Vietnam visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user from the US is currently in Hanoi with a short-term e-Visa that allows 12 days of stay, which is different from the expected 90 days. They are considering flying to Cambodia to apply for a new e-Visa while waiting for their pending DTV application. The user expressed concern about the possibility of needing to attend an interview during this waiting period.

Did you apply on weekdays? When did you declare as your travel date? They seem to prioritise those that have closer travel dates.

You would have known that before you flew to Vietnam. You should have applied for a new visa before traveling to Vietnam

Extend your visa. Don't leave the country you applied in until your application is finalised

can I do that while still in Vietnam? It takes about 5 days for Vietnam Evisas to get approved and I'd have to spend this time out of country
