Can I renew my DTV visa at a land border in Thailand?
Hi everyone, I'm currently living in Chiang Mai on a DTV visa. I've always renewed my visa by plane, but this time I'd like to try renewing it via the land border. Does anyone know if it's possible to renew a visa via the land border? And in which city should I go to apply?

It’s no problem getting it done at a land border. I did mine on Malaysia because I chose to ride there from chaing mai.

I’m on a DTV and I do same day border bounces at the Chiang Khong checkpoint every six months. Best to go with a border run service or driver who is also experienced there.

Firstly you are not renewing your visa. You are going out of Thailand and back in to get a new 180 day stamp.
In answer to your question, it’s no problem at all to get a 180 day DTV stamp at a land border Immigration post. I have done it a couple of times, with no questions asked at all.
I also came in via airports, no questions asked, but generally much longer queue times at the airports, particularly Suvarnabhumi

I crossed the friendship bridge IV in december, was 2minutes out, no questions asked and back with a new stamp

You can do it at Chiang Khong, about 5 hours one way…. Should be visa run services to help you !

Don’t forget you will need a visa for Laos it’s about $40-$50 usd you can do an e visa before you go !

KnowledgeableRaccoon5198 yea they were talking to my gf for a long time because we didnt have anything with us, then my gf said we need to stay 2-3nights, after that i showed them the DTV and they apologized 😆 would have save some time if they actually asked me first 🤣

The DTV isn’t old enough to have expired yet so it doesn’t need to be renewed

You may eventually start to understand how the DTV works before it’s too late especially if you think you don’t need to leave (or hypothetically extend) after 6 months of continuous stay. Renew means extend for the OP.Toni *******
