[TM30 Self Registration in Chiang Mai]

Hi All, I plan to stay in a condo near Chiang Mai Airport, and will need to be properly registered at immigration (to get an extension of stay later). The property manager don't want to go to immigration himself, but told me he will give me documents to self register if I want to. This raise a few question for people who may have done this before:

1) Is it easy to fill a TM30 and self register at immigration as a condo guest, even if you don't speak Thai?

2) What are the needed documents to self register? I have read than the owner need to bring the blue book when he go to immigration, but I doubt they will give it to me.

3) Will I have something additional to pay, like tax stamps, when I go to immigration to self register?

4) If I arrive on Saturday, is it ok to go at immigration the next Monday afternoon? Is it not too packed on Monday?

Thanks for your help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the process of self-registering a TM30 at immigration for a condo guest in Chiang Mai. The user is seeking advice on the ease of completing the TM30 form without speaking Thai, the necessary documentation required for self-registration, potential additional costs like tax stamps, and the timing of going to immigration after arrival. Previous commenters provided insights into the importance of timely registration, documents needed (like the TM30 form, landlord's ID and blue book), and reassurances about language barriers at immigration.

exactly that was my first thought

your stay is being real lazy ... tell the immigration officer and they can send a police person around to read him the riot act and fine him in to doing it next time properly ...

@David ********
yeah like that will happen.

If where you stay doesnt want to register you and it's a requirement for that particular Imm Office, and you want an extention of stay then be prepared to pay the 1600bt fine

Robert Lagas Maybe you should close the comments just to stop yourself making even bigger stupid comments

Just read all the topics on this page and you know.

Hahahahaha! Never heard that before. Try getting your rent paid by the Immigration Office
Steve *******
Gregor Huettner Maybe but probably not, if you need anything from the immigration office, ie extention of stay/residence cert then the fine will have to be paid first, probably by you

Some offfices call the landlord and tell them that the next rent will be paid minus the fine.
Gregor **********
wicked. So if the guest shows up at Immigration without all required paperwork and tells them that the landlord refuses to hand it to him, wouldn't Immigration pay a visit to the landlord?
Robert *******
@Steve ******
Read my first comment, it is mentioned in the documents that he need.
Steve *******
@Gregor *********
Yes, exactly, but if the owner doesnt pay the fine then the guest wont get their extention of stay
Steve *******
Robert Lagas The onus is on the owner of the property. Yes, but you cant just do it yourself, you need a copy of the owners ID and house book
Gregor **********
isn't the requirement that the landlord has to register the guest? If the guest is unable to register because the landlord refuses to hand him the required paperwork, the landlord should be fined, not the guest
Robert *******
If your landlord don't want and you know you need Immigration you can do yourself to prevent problems if you go to Immigration to get want you want. It safes the fine of 1.600 Thb.

@Robert ******
What? Do tourists register themselves in Hotels/condos/ resorts. I dont think so
Robert *******
Why, register yourself and problem solved.

The report must be done in 24 hours after arrival. If due to weekend or holiday Immigation is closed you can do this the next woring day without problem. You need the TM 30 form, 2 pages and you can download from the files section on this page, signed copy of front and back ID landlord, signed copy of blue housebook landlord, your passport ID page. You do not have to speak fluent Thai, most Immigration Officers are known to work with foreigners on daily basis and speak decent enough English.
