Can I apply for a DTV visa in Thailand if my passport expires in 8 months?

I started filling out the application for dtv and it says that my passport has to be ‘valid for at least six months from the date of visa application for single entry and one year for multiple entry’ but my passport expires in 8 months. I have already applied for another passport but it will take at least 2 months to get it. And I also need to be in Thailand for that 😥

Does anyone have experience with this? Can I still apply or it’s automatic rejection?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about applying for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) with a passport that has only 8 months validity. Community members advise waiting for a new passport, as applying with a passport that is being renewed may cause issues and potentially lead to a rejection. Alternative suggestions include entering Thailand with a tourist visa or a free entry stamp before applying for the DTV.

Thanks for all the replies. I wish I had seen this requirement sooner 😢 Because I came to Vietnam in order to apply and I am not sure if I can go back to Thailand again as I have stayed there 9 months already this year.

Oh well, now I know 😁

You should wait until you get your new passport to apply.

You don’t want to apply with a passport you’re renewing. It’ll cause issues for your visa and you’ll possibly have to carry the old one with you for the duration of said visa.

Just wait for your new one.

If you’ve already applied for it I’m not sure your old one is even valid tbh. I don’t think the UK ones are anyway. If it is you can still come as a tourist. But you’d have to leave again to apply for the DTV from a different country

In my country we can have two valid passports at the same time 😁

Nothing stops you from going to Thailand now with your current passport. As for the DTV, wait for the new passport and use that to apply for it. 2 months: come on.

Its a worldwide rule, 6 months passport validity...

that’s what I thought. But apparently it’s a year for a multiple entry, not 6 months

I didn't know that

Well all you qualify to buy is a single entry tourist visa (which will give you 60 days when you arrive and you can extend for 30 more at the immigration office after you're here)

I don't think you have the validity left on the current passport to apply for a DTV

OR

Come in on a 60 day free stamp entry (if you're from one of the 93 countries that get them) then renew your passport and go get a DTV after that

If you apply without a new passport you will likely be issued a 6month visa. You could contact the embassy and see if they make an exception.

nah that's incorrect

Not necessarily true. My passport had a validity of a year and a half at the time of applying, and they only made a note of it in the remarks. Sadly, this doesn't help the OP, as her passport expires in 8 months and they clearly state that at least one year is required.

For 18 mths there is no issue. My passport also expires before my DTV. She wants a 5 year multi entry visa and embassies' small print details issuance of other visas if DTV conditions are not met.
