I'm so happy this page exist! We are a family of five hoping to spend some

Time in Thailand. Our plan was to apply for a student visa (2 cooking classes; 3 muai Thai boxing). I'm very concerned about being denied entry (US passports). Our plan was to visit Thailand and scout acceptable schools and apply for the student visa within the country. My question is, is this acceptable? Is it likely we'll be issued the visa before our 60 days expire? Amy advice is appreciated. Thnx much
Answer summary
A family of five is seeking guidance on applying for a student visa while in Thailand on a tourist visa. They plan to enter Thailand on a 60-day visa exemption, allowing them to scout for schools offering cooking classes and Muay Thai before applying for the student visa. Concerns about entry denial and visa processing times are raised, along with suggestions from the community regarding initial entry and visa types.

My experience would suggest 60 days visa exempt and the extend your stay for a further 30 days at the appropriate immigration office . 1900 bhart each person for single entry

Martyn James It is Baht, not "bahrt". It is like saying "khullar" instead of dollar. So much of your knowledge.

They will never deny an entry to a family coming to Thailand for truism. On your third entry you may have to think about entry denial. That will be for five months from your first entry.

As mentioned above do the 60 day + 30 day extension and take it from there, as it's your first time you have not even said where about in Thailand you want to be which makes things difficult for anyone to help you, I know here in Hua hin that you can apply for an Ed visa about 3 weeks before you last 30 day extension ends, it may also be possible for Muy Thai too but each town/City and immigration are different and what's possible here may not be elsewhere.

just come for a 60+30 days holiday on a visa exemption, and see for yourself what you can do about the planned Muay Thai courses and the cooking school. Make sure that you got an onward travel proof in case the airline wants to see an onward travel out of Thailand within the first 60 days

Are you planning to come for more than 3 months cheapest way to do is free entry, 2 months and then one extension for 1900b each

Are you looking at ED visa or DTV visa ?

OP
Michael Dawson that's the question. We're a bit confused regarding the different types of visas available but at this point I think the "children" (adults 30, 29 & 19$ would pursue the DTV soft power (cooking class - 19yr old; muai Thai - 29yr old and university- 30yr old). Hobby & I can pursue the retirement visa.

Why are you concerned about being denied entry? Do you have history of spending time in Thailand?

we have never visited. I'm concerned because of reporting of two elderly persons being denied entry. One bought the onward tickets for 93 (think this was the number cited) days and I can't remember the circumstances regarding the other person. But as a family of five it's quite the financial commitment and I want to ensure we're in compliance.

if you have no history you will have no problem entering. These people's circumstances were very different
