TLDR : Answer Summary
The ability to open a bank account in Thailand on a Digital Tourist Visa (DTV) is highly disputed. Many commenters assert that it's generally not allowed, especially due to recent banking policies tightening around foreign nationals without long-term visas. While some banks may have previously permitted account openings with limited conditions, they have since begun freezing or closing accounts linked to tourist visas. The consensus suggests that a long-term visa, such as a Non-O or similar, is typically required, often supplemented by documentation like a residence certificate or marriage documents. It's advised to explore alternative banking solutions if you hold only a DTV.

Think it will be tricky. I was able to late last year on DTV but with reason “pay medical bills”

If you are under medical treatment you could try that, but things have changed

Bangkok Bank was the only big one that allowed it previously, but recently they’ve started freezing/closing accounts that don’t have a work permit attached to it.

Best thing to do is use your current bank and link it to something like the Moreta Pay app for scan pay.

You can only open a bank account on a long term Visa. Banks are closing accounts that are not register to long term Visa and Thai cellphone SIMs.

Don’t waste your money with an agent to circumvent the banks.

You can use a service like TAGTHAI

I needed the non-o visa alongside my marriage documents. Just being married was not enough.

some banks will be different but last Monday my friend opened an account on visa exempt. Needed to show his marriage certificate only. This also what the Bangkok Bank has said.

Nope and don’t listen to anyone saying it depends on the bank because recently all over the news you will be able to see that Thailand has froze the bank accounts of any one that doesn’t have a long term visa which the DTV is not and now ppl are screwed cause they can’t access their money

Depends on the bank, many are asking for a work permit and that's it. I spent a good deal of time looking and got one at KBank with a letter from immigration and a marriage visa

can’t get a work permit on a DTV. Non O based on marriage is a long stay visa which qualifies for opening a bank account.

it was the letter from immigration that clinched it, had the marriage visa before

Yes, residence certificate, but you got your account because of your Non O based on marriage which is a long stay visa and the main requirement now.

no I got a letter not a certificate. The work permit requirements were at many banks and I was denied, kbank denied me too and it was during my visa renewal the offices just gave me a letter for the bank

yes, its a letter confirming your residence. Several banks ask for this. It’s quite strict now and they often require long stay visa and a work permit or a house book.
