Folks on a DTV - are you able to open a Bank account? Also has anyone got a Thai tax ID or Pink card. Some of the banks are refusing to open an account on the DTV.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Many banks in Thailand are reluctant to open bank accounts for individuals on a DTV (Tourist Visa). It is common for banks to require a more stable residency, such as proof of a long-term visa or insurance purchase, to allow account creation. Obtaining a Thai tax ID or Pink Card may also be challenging under tourist visa conditions.

Why do you want Tax ID or Pink Card?

DTV is a touristvisa, not eligble for bankaccount.

An if just arrived in Thailand pretty much impossibel, better chances if waiting some months.

Banks in Thailand are like everywhere in the world, interested in having good stable custormers, that have a permanent address, a steady easy traceable income, and use the account all year round.

That is why the banks are reluctant to give accounts to people on short time ( read: tourist ) visas, and who only spend part of the year in Thailand.

Don’t expect to get a residence certificat, until you have stayed at a permanent adress in at least 3 month, since that is what the residence certificat should confirm.

Furthermore the added attention on whitewashing of money, is an added burden on the banks, so reluctant depositing large amounts isn’t a guaranteed way to open an account.

The value of a resident certificat, had gone down, since Immigration Officers are giving them to people that are not on a longterm visa, or have stayed severel months at 1 adress in Thailand, so even if it is a formal requirement, the bank make up their own assesment of the stability of the want-to-be customer.

think it depends on the location of immigration too. I got the residency form before 3 months but I paid for it. Same with the bank account

You can try bangkok bank. They let me open an account on a student visa if i bougt the insurance.

alternatively,

buy an insurance from the bank.

they will help you to open bank account. (more legal)

I dislike the over reliance of agents and realize that many of their activities are outside the law; however, in the current environment, using an agent to open a bank account is almost mandatory and in no way illegal.

correct because there is no law which prohibits a tourist from opening a bank account

The DTV is a tourist visa. You're probably not going to find a bank that will open an account just because you have the DTV. You'll probably have to pay an agent to assist in getting one.

thanks mate! What type of agent exactly and how do I find them?

I don't know that there's a specific type of agent. Expat Facebook group for the area you're living is probably the best bet
