TLDR : Answer Summary
The question of whether one can open a bank account with a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) in Thailand has garnered mixed responses. Some users suggest it's possible but may require visiting multiple bank branches due to varying policies. Others indicate it's not worth the hassle, while some simply advise against it altogether.

Yes, but you’ll have to try many different branches until one says yes. It’s always been like this in Thailand on a non immigration visa

Anonymous participant 950 It has not always been like this. At one time just going into a bank and opening even on Visa Exempt was not too hard.

Anonymous participant 950 Certain branches were "Known" to open them for tourists etc and these would often change. All came down to incentives and targets the bank needed to achieve. They might have KPIs relating to number of new accounts. How many insurance sales etc. Then BoT and HQs started tightening up.

No, it depends on what type of visa you're on. With a work permit, never a problem. On a tourist visa, years ago, no issue if opened at a main branch or expat/tourist area.

Nowadays, it's difficult to open a bank account on any visa without a work permit...retirement sometimes works, but often requires an agent as well.

If you pay a looooot to an agent, it's still possible. Not worth, tho, in my opinion.

I dunno the price now but when it was 4 or 5K it was worth it for many. It was cheaper than the so called " Mandatory" insurance some branches insist new account holders buy.
