TLDR : Answer Summary
Many expats have faced difficulties opening a bank account in Thailand with a DTV visa, as it is generally classified as a tourist visa. Some banks, like Kasikorn, have stated they are awaiting further instructions regarding this new visa type. While some users report success in opening accounts under certain conditions (e.g., purchasing insurance), others advise that it may depend on the bank's policies or individual employees' discretion. Overall, there is ambiguity around the official regulations for DTV visa holders attempting to open bank accounts.

Agencies will do it for you, otherwise hunt around in different Bangkok Bank locations

Actually only kasikorn told me it's new visa so they are waiting instructions about it and they told me to try again in next months.

I think it depends not on bank but on people who are working there, some they care some don't

Thai employees are most times very afraid to do something they are not used to, they strictly follow instructions.

I once had in a shop 4 articles in different colors, all colors same price.

One of colors had only one left and it had no price tag.

I expected them to scan just one of the others, because all had same price, but they just refused, I could not buy the article.

yes i know, "flexibility" is not in their vocabulary :)

Have noticed that many refers to DTV as a tourist visa. Unclear why. Looking at the offical website it is not listed as Tourist.

That being said, as a new type of visa there are still wrinkles to be sorted out. Bank account etc.

No one knows what to say yet a lot of paragraphs. Go to pattaya

I’m surprised that they won’t let you open one. Even thought it’s officially a ‘tourist’ visa but the purpose of the visa is to allow people to live in Thailand and work remotely for companies outside Thailand. Does this also mean people with DTV can’t get driving licenses etc?

@Dominic **********
You can get driving license, legally there is nothing against you having a bank account, but Thai banks might have to have extra reporting duties for foreigners because of money laundering, and they just don't like the extra duties, so they don't give them accounts.

Tell them u want buy a condo and need an saving account. Maybe this will work.

Yes, officially you can't as DTV is considered as a tourist visa. Find an unofficial way 😉

It is simple. As tourists you’re not (official) allowed to open a Thai bank account. DTV is a tourist visa. So the (official) answer is clear.

not true, many people get bank account without any working or other visas, it depends on people working in a specific branch

Tourists are allowed to open a Thai bank account, it is just bank policy they only do with certain visa.

it’s always the same if this question appears again and again.

„No you can’t“

„Yes, you can“

„Yes you can with agency“

Blabla :)

My answer is what I get as answer from 3 banks.

They also said it was possibly, but many banks changed their policies.

Have a look back at posts over the weekend. A guy posted about getting an account at a bank in the Big C Extra at On Nut with a DTV

incorrect. Just need a right branch

Lots of discussions, it's a tourist visa so they won't, some have reported finding a bank and buying their insurance, others say use an agency. But technically they are correct, I've found the same.

Have you tried Bangkok Bank? sometimes they let you open an account if you buy a insurance with them.

I tried today and they said you can’t open an account with DTV. Either need work permit or another non tourist visa. Or be buying a condo.
Yasmin ***********
@Jtc ****
What if you just tell them you are planning to buy a condo? Or do they need proof?
Jtc *****
@Yasmin **********
yeah need proof. they gave me a document with the requirements i will try to add a photo of it tomorrow.
