Hi all,

I have DTV, but seems like I cannot open any bank account through this visa.

If you can open bank account with DTV, please advise which bank and what are the requirements.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Opening a bank account in Thailand can be challenging with a Digital Visa for Thailand (DTV). Many users report difficulties, with successful account openings largely relying on agents. Some have found success through banks in Pattaya, while experiences in Bangkok are more variable. Requirements typically include several forms of identification. It's recommended to hire a visa agent for assistance to navigate the process effectively.
DTV VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES

Hire a Visa agent, you will waste a lot of time and probably not be able to open up a bank account, using a Visa agent they will open doors that you cannot

I managed to do it on Tourist 30 days stamp in Chiang Mai in Krungsri bank in the beginning of this year.

Before the covid, krungsri bank in the central was easy. Not sure about the current situation.

DTV is treated as a tourist visa - you will need to pay a agent to open a bank account or go from bank to bank until one says yes

Or permanent residence (owning a condo or house)

@Barc **********
owning a condo does not give you permanent residencies. Owning a house in a company name that has no business in Thailand is questionable at best and can be confiscated any time.

@Deepak ******
leasing for the house. Owning a condo was enough for one friend to open account with agent

For me, at Bangkok Bank CM, it was 3 official papiers/cards with my pic on it (driving licence, passport, international driving licence or health insurance card)

CM means Central Mall?

I opened a bank account with DTV last week in Pattaya through an agent. There are a few there you can google search and contact to ask

Who can recommend an agent? I’m also on a DTV, asked an agent in BKK and he said right now they can not open accounts to DTV holders 🤷🏻‍♂️

@Carlos ********
opening bank accounts has become more restrictive

The only successful stories opening a bank account with a DtV visa are those that applied under the medical treatment category
Luit *****************
@Iñigo ***********
The bank can not see the type of DTV, so it must be the story you tell.

what do we need from the hospital ? What stuff need to ask?
Iñigo ************
Probably the receipt, medical certificate, and letter of the hospital for the appointments.

You also need a residence certificate for sure.

However, only Bangkok Bank branche in central Pattaya accepted it. This was a few weeks ago. So you should check it again a few times.

What's the cost of an agent and any recommended agents?
Andi ***********
@Corrine *****
Pattaya 3500-5000THB, Bangkok is much higher from around 10K THB and upwards.

Get an Agent sir

It is hard to open a bank account on the majority of visas. Very easy via an agent or you have to do the walk, visit many banks until one says yes.

@Andi **********
Forget agents, go to Kbank (this is where I opened my bank account with a student visa) and explain them you will stay in Thailand for one year and you need to transfer money from your job to the country, DTV is quite new and in Thailand the information is "propagated" very slow , possible the bank officer you asked don't know yet about this visa.
Andi ***********
@Rob ********
Good idea but it is the OP who wants to open an account, not me,
Rob *********
@Andi **********
Yeah, sorry for the confusion, fb auto tagging...
Jack *******
@Andi **********
untrue. All normal work related visas that allow work permits are easy and even is all LTR without work permit as well.
Andi ***********
@Jack ******
I know people with employment visas who have been denied opening accounts. I said it is hard not impossible. Many banks do deny accounts to legit applicants as FB highlights.
Jack *******
@Andi **********
they must be really going to remote areas or Banks that are not having any well trained or English educated speakers nor any expat customers and wonder why they go there while there are 100s of branches all over . Each mall has a dedicated floor with almost all banks opening branches in every main city of every 76 province of Thailand
Andi ***********
@Jack ******
Not all are remote, even in central Bangkok, there are rejections. You are correct lack of training and language barrier is a factor. There is also no uniformity in decision making even within the same bank.
Jack *******
@Andi **********
the best situation is to call the visa issuing authority and hand the phone to the bank officer - or carry printout or links to Thai websites that mention the rule
Andi ***********
@Jack ******
Yes, that has worked for some.
