Hello, I would appreciate some advice regarding applying for an METV for January.

As I understand it I would need to produce a letter from my employer for this visa? This is a problem for me as I

will be living off savings while I take a sabbatical thus will be not employed, I've had one SETV in the past and loved Thailand so much that I want to spend possibly 9 months to a year there. Will proof of funds be enough? I suppose the purpose of this letter is to prove that I won't be working out there?

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on applying for a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV) since they will not be employed but living off savings during their sabbatical in Thailand. They inquire about the necessity of a letter from their employer to prove they won’t be working in Thailand and whether proof of funds would suffice instead.

I’ve had two back to back METV’s from Hull. You can email all your documents and they will check them within 24hrs and email to say come and get your visa. I think as long as your letter says that you still have a job when you return it will be fine. We didn’t bother with London as the online application is a nightmare. Hull METV is issued immediately. Easy, stress free.

And you provided them with a letter from your employer?

FYI..the visa goes live the day it’s put in your passport so get it as close to your departure date as possible

Thanks Jeremy I will consider that. Any idea roughly on the turnaround on METV applications? or does it vary?

When I did mine a few years ago in Hull they didn't even look at the letter

Where will you be making application?

What is your nationality?

Are you now in Thailand?

Use the London online E-visa application system. Read more about others making application using the new London online posted in this forum.
