What proof of employment is needed for a 6-month METV if I will work remotely in Thailand?

Hello, I am applying for the 6 month METV soon. My partner is going to Bangkok on a Business visa and I will be accompanying him. My concern is with the "Employment Verification" portion. Besides the letter, what other proof of employment is necessary? I will be working as a virtual assistant for a family member. Will they just need to write a letter with their company letterhead? They own their business. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Also, I live in LA very close to the Thai Embassy, just as an FYI.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is applying for a 6-month METV to accompany their partner, who will be on a Business visa. They are concerned about the 'Employment Verification' requirement, specifically what proof of employment is needed. There's confusion regarding the necessity of doing work remotely as a Virtual Assistant while on a tourist visa. Community responses suggest avoiding mentions of work on the METV application and focusing on providing a straightforward employment verification letter. It's also emphasized that the METV is a tourist visa, and performing work in Thailand as a virtual assistant would typically require a different visa.

Ok so back to my original query: What is the verification letter meant to state? I have a job in the States to return to but I won't be working until I get back? They just want to know I am indeed returning? This is so confusing, why would I be able to return to a job I am not going to be working for 6 months?!

Pretty sure I said that on Sunday....

Excellent. Can do. Thanks so much, this was a massive help!

Just a letter from your employer, would be nice if it is on company paper with a company stamp and signature of people in charge.

Ahhhh, it all makes sense now. And they just need a letter, no pay stubs or phone calls verifying its validity?

Thailand wants to know if you as a Tourist can support yourself during the maximum stay of a visa, with this Multiple Entry Tourist Visa you can stay 270 days in Thailand without working. So they ask for financial proof and a letter from you employer verifying you have a job on return. After a long vacation you need money to buy food and drinks in your home country, an income out of a job makes that possible.
Robert *******
because you agreed with your employer a six month leave.

@Ma**
, I would do as
@Rob***
, suggested,

IF you're pulling a 6 month METV <- which is a visa for tourisim NOT working, keep the fact that you're going to be working while you're in thailand to yourself. ;)

If you want to work as a Virtual Assistant in Thailand you also need the Work Permit and the Non Immigrant B visa. You are not allowed and you sign for that on the application form, to engage in any type of work or profession while in Thailand on a Tourist Visa.

For pleasure only and in no case shall I engage myself in any profession. Working for an American company while in Thailand is not allowed with a Tourist Visa. I hear many Digital Nomads claim you can do and nobody will see, but keep in mind signing this statement and getting caught brings fines and deportation.

This is in a box on the Application form: Attention for Tourist and Transit Visa Applicants :

I hereby declare that the purpose of my visit to thailand is for pleasure or transit only and that in no case shall I engage myself in any profession or occupation while in the country.

I will be working for an American company via internet.

I just got an SETV in Bahrain. They required a simple statement letter from my employers in Saudi Arabia confirming the dates of my visit to Thailand, approval of the time away from work etc. The Bahrain embassy/consulate for Thailand provided a template on the website.

Is this what your talking about?

Tourists are not supposed to work.

So my verification letter ought to state that I HAD a job working for as a VA but I'm on sabbatical? The bureaucracy is maddening.
Steven ***********
And working from Thailand on a tourist visa wouldn't be strictly legal, however you wouldn't be the only one doing it.....

Yes, it's just frustrating that I need to furnish proof that I am financially independent ( bank statement) as well as having a job to return to. I get they want me to return to the US but most legit jobs in US don't allow 6 month vacations...
Steven ***********
Who will be working as a virtual assistant? Yourself or your partner?
Mary ***********************

So they don't want me to work while I'm there but I also can't quit my job when I leave? How does that make sense?
Steven ***********
I'd reconsider your visa choice and if your applying for a tourist visa don't mention anything to do with working in the country. That would be foolish.

That I will be working for an American company via internet? Sponsor just means a Thai company is hiring him and therefore applying for his work permit on his behalf. Did something get lost in semantics?
Steven ***********
I wouldn't suggest mentioning that

Myself. Partner has a Thai sponsor.

So you're just comin' here on an 6-month METV right? It's your partner that is applying for the B visa?
Mary ***********************
ORIGINAL POSTER
Yes, exactly. That was extraneous information, I know, but it's the driving reason for my traveling there.

A little hard to follow but I suggest aside from the letter verifying employment don't use words like virtual employment - especially employment that seems to just be starting now. Just say personal assistant going on a sabbatical if the people you are working for are staying back home. I strongly suggest a one page employment contract back dated... Not an over done lawyer piece. But just a straight forward who, what, when, where, why, how and how much.

What does it say on the Thai consulate in LA's website about applying for a Non-Immigrant Type B visa?

I couldn't speak to Employment verification - but you may wont to consider getting a google voice number and set-up your phone prior to leaving. With that - you can make a receive US calls free of charge, Just like you were home. Also - we have no starburst here -- FYI

Good advice. I'm off the starburst, unless it's the pink kind.
