How Can I Obtain a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa Without an Employer Letter?

Hi, just joined and the info here is great. I'm planning to visit Thailand from the UK within the next 2 months and planned to get a METV. However, I'm not going to be able to provide an employer letter! I've saved to go travelling for a year or so and giving up my employment to do so! I'm wondering how other 'unemployed' travellers opting for an METV get around this??

Alternatively, I'm considering a SETV for 60 days and assume I can leave the country and return within a few days on a tourist exemption. I noticed on Cardiff Thai consulate FAQ page I can have 3 x 30 day visits within 6 months as long as I travel by air, so could I tag this on to a SETV?

Thanks for your help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on obtaining a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for Thailand while being unemployed and unable to provide an employer letter. They are also considering a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) and inquiring about utilizing the 30-day tourist exemption for additional stays. Various comments from the community provide suggestions about using tourist visas and extending stays, along with recommendations for nearby countries to acquire new visas.

And so far about the question what about employer statement.

It all went from a visit to SE region to how to stay longer inside Thailand to I'm clearing out the house, before I go elsewhere.

Make a plan B as living and working in Thailand using Tourist visa is not the way to plan a future, if you plan plan something legal.. Good Luck.

Hi Robert I moved from the METV option to the SETV option because I can't provide a letter of employment! I want to stay in Thailand for longer period as possible without having to keep going out and back in. But yes I am visiting other countries in the region Aswell. I was hoping for 6 months with the least visa runs as possible 🙂

There is a difference. You are planning to visit as many countries in the SE region as possible, so the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa for Thailand was the choice as this visa is valid for 6 months and on each entry during validity you get 60 days of stay.

Now you think the Single Entry Tourist Visa, which gives you once 60 days of stay inside Thailand, could be extended with 30 days, then visit another country in the SE region for 2 days to buy a new Single Entry Tourist Visa for a new 60 days period inside Thailand, possible 30 days Extension again to get a total of 6 months stay.

As many countries, or as many days inside Thailand as possible, sounds different to me.

Ask your employer to put your start date with the company - current date etc if you’re still with them?

Got to be many people who get 6 month visa and don’t have employment so can’t provide letter of employment .Just don’t get it .Maybe ask this consulate about this .Maybe letter explaining your position

I agree... It's baffling! It's the same as asking how long is a piece of string lol!

simply call or email the London Thai Embassy and ask.

Meet the requirements for a visa. You get it.

For the nearby Thailand neighbor country to get another Tourist Visa I recommend Penang / Georgetown, Malaysia. This old British influenced area is an interesting place. It will add nicely to your South East Asian visit

Ooh, and just to say I'm really looking forward to filling in the online application.... NOT 😲. Think I'll get started now and hope to have it complete by February 😂.... I will of course read the manual first!

My bad, 3 months from issue. Updated. Cheers Greg.

Single entry application is just a few lines, really easy. If in doubt, just leave and ask at consulate.

Cardiff is nearest for me about 1.5 hours away. I'm planning to arrange an appointment a few days before I travel as from what I've read here it's valid from the date of issue and not the date of entry. Don't want to lose too many days!

there are many Thai Consulates in the UK. Much easier to get Tourist Visa ...walk in service, walk out with visa. Call ahead to verify hours.

thank you soo much. I'm planning to visit a number of countries in SEA but the Thai visa feels like Pandoras box is being opened!!

I doubt you will be able to stay in Thailand "a year or so" with your plan to use back to back entries by land or air.

As
@Tod ********
has suggested you can get 6 months of stay. And if you follow with two land border crossings plus two 30 days extensions that would bring you up to 10 months in Thailand.

Good Luck

thankyou James.. I'm planning on visiting as many countries in SEA as possible I just don't want to rush my Thai experience! It's been 29 years since my last 30 day visit. In fact, there was only one hotel on koh phi phi back then that had fresh running water, everywhere else had salt water only!! Anyway nothing to do with visas so I'll leave it there 😊

Get a single entry tourist visa from a thai consulate in your country BEFORE you wing your way here, get stamped in for 60 days, extend it by 30 days at the immigration office inside of thailand for 1900baht. THEN go to a thai consulate in a nearby country and get a NEW single entry tourist visa, get another 60 days and extend that for 30 days as well. That buys you almost 6 months here
