I’m looking at heading to Vientiane to get a tourist visa from the Thai consulate there. Just to make sure: this type of visa is for a 60 day period of stay max and can be renewed once, isn’t it ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A tourist visa obtained from the Thai consulate in Vientiane is valid for 60 days, with the possibility of extending your stay for an additional 30 days at a local immigration office for a fee of 1,900 baht. The visa allows a single entry and must be activated within three months of issuance. It is important to prepare by having the required documents, including proof of sufficient funds and an appointment for the visa application.
I’m already in Thailand and trying to stay in the country until 8 February. After the 60 + 30 day period with the tourist visa, can I then do a border bounce, and re-enter getting a 45 day visa exemption. Would I get into problems trying to do that ? Is there any better solution ?
I am currently on an STV visa which expires on October 16th ( I can’t extend as the damn scheme ceases end of September:(
you can change it to a 90 day Non-O visa based on being over 50 (retirement) if you meet the financial requirements. Once you get back from Vientiane on the tourist visa GO talk to the immigration office in the area where you live to get the hand out listing the documentation requirements to do it
CLICK on it and all posts about it will pop up for you to read... important to read others experiences in getting the Visas from the Vientiane Laos Thai Embassy
You will get a single entry tourist visa, it will be valid for 3 months <- meaning you have that long to ENTER thailand and when you do stamp in you will get stamped in for 60 days and you can extend that ONE time for 30 days at the immigration office where you stay for 1900 baht
no idea you show a balance of 20K baht for 3 months, Couldn't really say how they parse it out but I sure wouldn't use that consulate if you don't have it.
The consulate in Savannakhet only requires the 20K baht in the bank on the day you apply so if you're not sure you'd make it in Vientiane, you should use Savannakhet
also remember the thai consulate in Vientiane takes THREE WORKING DAYS processing time. You turn your passport in Monday morning, you get it back Wednesday afternoon. You show up any time after Wednesday to apply and you wait the weekend in Lao to get your passport back the following week 🙂
you shouldn't have any issues then, and as I said you'll get in on a 60 day (TR60) stamp and you can get one 30 day extension from that at the immigration office where you stay
many thanks for your reply. Yes i did read the requirements on their website. I got a Wise account with largely that amount. That would be ok, wouldn’t it ?
Yep .. the Thai tourist visa will give you 60 days on arrival into Thailand... Plus one 30 Days extension of stay from your local Thai immigration office for 1900 Thai baht.
