I’m an Australian in DaNang and returning to Chiang Mai early next month.

I was in Thailand from Nov 2022 to March 2023, during this time I extended the 45day Visa for 30days then did Border 45day Visa in January 2023, then flew to DaNang in mid March.

I am returning by flight to Chiang Mai on 30day Tourist early June.

Can I do a 60day visa in Chiang Mai and add 30days?

Can I do this twice with a flight/land exit?

Open to doing 1yr Visa but not if I don’t have to.

Appreciate your help

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, an Australian returning to Thailand, inquired about obtaining a 60-day visa in Chiang Mai and the possibility of extending it. Comments clarified that the 30-day entry upon arrival is a visa exemption, and visa applications must be made outside Thailand, like at a Thai consulate in Vietnam. The user can enter visa exempt for 30 days and extend once for an additional 30 days but cannot obtain a 60-day tourist visa within Thailand.

You cant do the 60 days TR in Chiang Mai, you could get it in Vietnam or just enter visa exempt for 30 days.

Any ideas on which city/country and time frame would be the best to fly from Chiang Mai to do 60day Visa?

If you get to Chiang Mai you'll get the 30+30 days, which would you be looking then at leaving and getting a TR visa. I'm a bit confused

So you're trying to live in Thailand on a succession of tourism entries? You'll possibly be denied a tourist visa if you've already spent a long time in the country. Have you considered getting a visa to suit your purpose in Thailand?

You're flying close the edge as far as visa exempts are concerned. Why don't you apply for the tourist visa whilst you're in Vietnam?

Da Nang does not have a Thai Embassy.

There's no such thing as a 30 day tourist visa or 45 day tourist visa. Those were visa exempt meaning NO VISA at all.

You cannot apply for a Thai visa inside of Thailand so no you cannot do a 60 day visa in Chiang Mai. If you want to come with a 60 day visa you need to apply for it at a Thai consulate in the country you are in before you come.

If you come with no visa you will receive 30 days on entry which you can extend one time for 30 days, and then you would need to leave Thailand.

Any thoughts on the Thai Embassy in Ho Chi Minh? I'll be there in a month and was going to apply for a 60-day TV for entry into Phuket. I've heard from a few people they can be a bit difficult.

no personal experience but you may be able to search the group for other posts. I think they might also require an appointment, but their website would say for sure.
