Hey guys. Can I get a Single entry tourist visa in Vientiane Laos, after my 30 day visa exempt stamp without any problems if it will be my first Tourist Visa in my passport? I have no prior Thailand visas in my current passport. I cannot get the tourist Visa right now as I am in Sweden at the moment and its not my country of residence. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring whether they can apply for a single entry tourist visa in Vientiane, Laos, following a 30-day visa exemption stamp, considering it will be their first tourist visa in their passport. Responses indicate that applying at the Thai consulate in Vientiane should not pose any problems, and it is possible to extend the 30-day stamp for an additional fee.

It is clearly stated on the wesite of the Thai Embassy in Stockholm: 6. For non EU citizen. A copy of valid Swedish visa/residence permit. (Uppehållstillstånd). Swedish visa/Residence permit must be valid during period of travelling and returning to Sweden.

@Mar****
, I not worry but try to help people and by finding out what went wrong I could give better advice if people ask next time. Reading the text it says your Shengen Visa has to be valid during period of travelling and returning to Sweden. There is no text about people who leave Sweden and not want to return. I think she just took the text to literally.

No worries at all. No my shengen will be done 19th Sept, then I would travel to Thailand, visit some friends etc and then go home to SA. So I thought since I have all that info it would be ok, but anyhoo it came as abit of NO surprise as the woman was not friendly at all, I know their way. Its up to how they feel in the moment, such is my opinion of the matter.

Not to defend but trying to understand what went wrong. You plan to travel for short period and than back to Sweden I guess. Is your current Shengen Visa still valid on return in Sweden?

@Tod ********
which I am as I have a Shengen Visa.

yeah but that's not what the problem was for the O/P and I think the "swedish visa/residence" dealy is just showing you're stamped into sweden

Yes I did read that, but I called to see if they would be able to assist me seeing as though going all the way back to SA would be a little silly and expensive just for a tourist visa. The Irony is that I can still go to Thailand and get a stamp for 30 days and then go to Laos for a Visa, so its just a little annoying that they couldnt make an exception since Im just traveling for a short period. But anyway, such is the Thai way.

Well, sorry that happened to you :(

okay, so your plan is to fly in on a 30 day visa exempt entry.

Which you can also extend for another 30 days at the immigration office for 1900baht if you want to ;)

You can certainly go to the thai consulate in Vientiane and apply for a single entry tourist visa without a problem (and without showing anything as far as proof of funds, onward travel or a hotel booking) for 1000 baht.

AND you can extend that 60 day stamp by 30 more days at the immigration office for 1900baht too.

. I have actually done all this visa stuff before but I havent been in Thailand for a year and now I have a new passport so its clean slate. I just wanted to check what the vibe was at the moment. Thanks for the advice.

Vientiane/Laos still no problem

I don't suppose it will be a whole lot longer and all the Embassys and consulates will be pulled into line to sing from the same Hymn sheet.

@R**
, Penang is getting that way. I just heard from someone down there they got denied with a vientiane warning stamp in their passport.
Ron *******
I believe Vientiane is a place that won't issue a Tourist visa if you have a stamp of denial or warning in your passport from any other Embassy/consulate in the region?
Tod *********
Samwise, tourist visas are indeed denied at the thai consulates but it takes getting more than a few from them and then they warning stamp your passport.

Ok great thank you. Since I have no prior visas in my passport now Im thinking it will be less of a hassle
Tod *********
Why can't you get a single entry tourist visa in Sweden? There is no rule that you have to be a national of that country to use their thai consulate.
Ron *******
Tod, wasn't there reports on here last year of French and Germans being refused in London? If it wasn't here it was 100% reported somewhere.

I went their yesterday and I was refused, first she said I need a hotel booking, then she said I need a lease agreement from my friend who I will stay with, then she said Im not a resident of Sweden so she cannot do it. NEW rules apparently.
