Can I get a visa on arrival for Thailand as a UK citizen and how can I extend my stay beyond 30 days?

Iโ€™m flying to Bangkok next week from the UK and am I right in thinking I will just get a visa on arrival for 30 days? Nothing to do beforehand?

I plan to stay longer than 30 days, so what do I need to do to extend this visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
As a UK citizen, you cannot get a visa on arrival; instead, you will be granted a 30-day visa exempt entry upon arriving in Thailand. If you intend to stay longer than 30 days, you can extend your stay for an additional 30 days at the immigration office for a fee of 1,900 baht. Alternatively, you can apply online for a 60-day tourist visa prior to your trip, which is often cheaper than extending your stay once in Thailand.

No visa on arrival only 30 day exempt which you can extend for another 30 days for 1,900 baht

if you stay in the Southern province. you can also do a visa run to Malaysia and back to Thailand for another 30 days

Will help if you bring a spare passport photo and download and print a TM7 form. Then when there you need a copy of you arrival stamp. Will save time in office when extending.

Why not apply for a 60TR online it's is cheaper then extending. It's a easy process and normally get your visa back with in 5 working, sometimes less then 5 days, at cost ยฃ30

Check with your airline if they will let you board without an onward ticket within the 30 days you will get stamped in for. Print their reply in case you need it at check in.

the airline said I don't need an onward ticket to board the plane. Will I be okay at immigration without one though?

Nope you can't get any "visa on arrival" as a brit ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

BUT

what you can do is show up here without having bought a visa before you come and get stamped in FREE for 30 days on what's called a "visa exempt entry" ๐Ÿ™‚

You can extend that 30 day stamp once for 30 more days at the immigration office where you stay for 1900baht. Giving you a total of 60 days in country

sorry, yes that's what I meant! Thanks for that. And you can only extend that once?

If I wanted to stay longer than 60 days, how would I go about applying for the student visa? Is that something I need to do as soon as I arrive?

you would go talk to a school, enroll, pay the tuition, they'd get paperwork and then you'd apply for the ED visa

So once you get here get after it

If you haven't been abusing the visa excempt system, i,e. you don't have lots of in and outs you can just fly in and out a couple times, they won't bother you (they'll warn you before you get any trouble usually). You can also do 2 land border runs per year, so you're good untill next year at least.
