TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can fly from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur and return on the same day without any problems related to immigration. There is no strict time limit for how long you have to be out of Thailand as long as you have a stamped exit from Thailand and an entry into another country, which can even be managed without actually entering the country if you remain in the transit area. However, it's advisable to carry proof of funds (20,000 baht) as a precaution, as immigration officers may check your documentation upon re-entering Thailand.

There is no time limit on how long you must be out of the country when bouncing out&in by air. I know people who book two one way tickets BKK to KL and KL to BKK, fly down, turn right around and fly back on the next flight.
The reason they book two one way tickets is many airlines won't let you book a round trip ticket with tight time points, so two one way tickets works better.

Lucy, by air, no, there is no official limit but you will get called on the carpet by a passport control officer once you have 4 to 6 visa exempt entries (especially if they are back-2-back and they think you are living or working here on them).
By land you can only get TWO 30 day visa exempt entries in a calendar year now.
, are correct. (y) when border-bouncing by air you do NOT need to stamp in and out of another country before you fly back and stamp into thailand, your boarding pass serves as proof you were in another country (and the fact you're on the arrival side of the immigration desk).
Now when you border bounce by land you MUST stamp in and out of another country before stamping back into thailand. Meaning you can't just stamp out of thailand, go into no-manz land, turn around and come back.

okay, the ONLY time getting a new passport clears anything is with the thai consulates when you get a visa because they don't have a shared database and only look thru your passport to see how many visas you've had.
Getting a new passport doesn't help you a bit when you stamp into thailand because that program searchs by passport number, DOB, age, sex, country of origin. The immigration officer can see ALL of your arrival departure history if they care to look at it.
Still you should have no problem flying out and back in to get a 30 day visa exempt stamp, BUT why not just suck it up, go to a thai consulate and get a single entry tourist visa?
If you are gonna bounce out and back in make sure you have the proof of funds on you (20K baht) in case you're asked for it.
, What I learnt from this group. You NEED to get stamp IN/OUT from another country when you cross the border on LAND (or Sea). You don't have to enter another country when you FLY out/in this kingdom.

Yes. You should have no problem going to KL and coming back the same day. Carry the money like I mentioned above to show in case you get flagged for a check. The last time you got stopped was probably because of overstay. Also while you should not have any problem it is still upto the Immigration Officer to grant/refuse you entry. Denial of entry is very rare. Wish you luck!
so I can fly out in the morning at 7am and back bkk same day at 9ish?? I’m only afraid they don’t let me enter the same day.. I had work permit before and been doing border run to Cambodia twice for last year and once for this year.. but never been fly out for almost 2 years

If you have not been blacklisted by Thailand immigration for your previous overstay then yes, You can reenter Thailand on the same day. Since this will show as an IN/OUT bounce you may get flagged for a check. Please MAKE SURE you are carrying 20,000 baht or equivalent foreign currency with you just in case you are asked.

So I can still enter bkk the same day? Even if they have old record? I mean.. I already paid the fine and that was probably almost 2 year

Jacob Lotsander They can do a search on name, birthdate and nationality, so technically they can connect you to a previous passport if you are using the same name.

Jacob Lotsander It depends on the country. ie In the US you cannot do this, the only way is to enter the country even if your final destination is outside the US.

Yes. You can take the stairs or elevator inside the transitzone and go fron departures to arrivals freely. All this area is before the border or immigration.

Ughhhhh.... ok guys. Not in the mood for another facebook yes/no saga... just do it your way. Good night.

Here are some conflicting stories about your procedure.
Just to inquire, what is the advantage of not going though immigration in the other country?
Valère *************************
When you arrive you are IN the transitzone already. You find a counter of your airline and check-in for your return flight.
Valère *************************
You don't need to stamp into another country. You can stay in transit and fly back with the same airplane. BUT! make sure you keep both bording passes to show Immigration in Bangkok. I'm not the only one and you can find numerous accounts on this page of people who did this.

I have done it without any issue. Kuala Lumpur and back same day. No issue.
