TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is facing an urgent visa situation, with their current visa expiring soon. They can’t do a visa run to Cambodia due to recent attempts and are considering flying to Kuala Lumpur, but are concerned about the implications of not staying overnight and lacking an onward flight. Community responses highlight the uncertainty of immigration officer reactions, potential requests for proof of funds and onward travel, and suggest that staying in Vientiane could be a safer option for obtaining a proper tourist visa.
Just either go back to your country of origin or if your country is one that is authorized in Australia get the 6 month METV from the Thai consulate/embassy and enjoy up to 9 months of stay in Thailand at 60-90 days at a time...
I'd say depending on your entry history to thailand you run a risk of being questioned at either Don Mueang or Suvarnabhumi.
If the officer thinks you're living here on back-2-back visa exempt or tourist visas entries they can be quite hard core, ask you for proof of funds (20K baht or the equivalent in cash) proof of onward travel (within the time you're gonna get stamped in for) and proof of a hotel booking or confirmed lodging.
I'd wager you have far more chance of success just hanging tough in Vientiane until you can get a single entry tourist visa and comin' back into thailand by the Nong Khai land border than you do bouncing out and back in by air.
