HI I am British and will arrive in Thailand on 10th July with a visa exemption and stay for 81 days...To renew the visa for another 30 days I can go to the immigration...to renew it again for another 21 days will the immigration do it or does one have to do a border run...? If a border run is the only option better to do it for the second extension or the last?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A British individual traveling to Thailand on a visa exemption wonders about extending their stay beyond 81 days. They plan to stay for 81 days with an initial visa exemption and seek advice on renewing it for an additional 30 or 21 days. Responses clarify that only one extension is allowed, emphasizing the need for a tourist visa instead, which provides a full 60 days stay followed by a possible 30-day extension. Others suggest considering a 90-day Non-Immigrant O visa for longer stays without the hassle of extensions or border runs.

if you are over 50 years old and happen to have more than the equivalent in Pound Sterling of 800.000.- THB in your bank account, just apply for the 90-days Non-Imm-O retirement visa. You will get stamped in for 90 days stay permit upon entry. Just use it like you would use a tourist visa, and fly back to UK on day 81. No extension needed, no border bounce needed, no onward travel proof needed

What kind of visa it? Never heard of an 81 day visa or 21 day renewals.

So you actually have a Tourist visa which is good for 60 days and can be extended for another 30 days, right?

In late April or early May use the online system to get a Tourist Visa. You’ll have 3 months to use it so will be fine for 10 July. You’ll then get 60 days on entry which you can extend for a further 30 days at an Immigration office in Thailand.

And. . When you get to airport and the airline see you've no ticket to leave Thailand during the 30 day exempt period, they may not let you board.

You can't extend twice. Only once.

Why are you making it so difficult on yourself?

Just apply for a tourist visa through the evisa system before you travel. Then you print the visa they send you and get 60 days when you arrive, apply for a 30 day extension, and don't have to worry about the time and expense of doing a border run.
