What Options Do I Have After My Non-O Volunteer Visa Expired During the Amnesty?

RE: First year Non O Volunteer Visa

Our visa expired last June 21 & is now “covered” by the amnesty till September. We cannot do our visa run due to the

obvious reason. Our sponsor advised us to wait for further announcements nearing the end of amnesty. Any advise from you guys? Thank You!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice following the expiration of their Non-O Volunteer visa during the amnesty period. The sponsor advised them to wait for further announcements, and comments suggest applying for a new extension or potential government extensions at the end of the amnesty. Some indicate that exiting Thailand might be necessary, while updates from an immigration officer clarify the current situation and possible next steps.

Update: just came back from Chaengwattana Immigration Ofc

Officer said since our One Year Volunteer has expired they can’t give us a new one here in Thailand, we have to go out of the country. He said we have two options at end of amnesty, either the government will give more extensions till we’re able to leave the county or get a letter from U.S. Embassy. He said “ don’t worry” easy for him to say..

there's a possibility of everything. I *Would Not* expect another amnesty extension. You can request another 30 day extension by asking your embassy to write a letter to Thai immigration. If Thai immigration approves it, you can stay until around October 25

Please be aware that a person seeking or holding a Non O Volunteer visa is not eligible to seek entry to Thailand at this time.

So leaving not a viable option...as returning not possible.

Why not just apply for a NEW yearly extension? I know people who volunteer and get extensions year after year one after the other at the immigration office. There is no rule that you need to go get a new Non-O visa and start the process over.

you can't "renew" a visa or an extension either :/ .

A visa <- that you buy from a thai consulate in another country expires and then you go BUY a new one

Same thing for your extension from the immigration ofifce, you apply for it, it's good for how long it's good for and then it runs out and you apply for a NEW extension.

I think your sponsor is confused and you should go to the immigration office that you got your extension from and see what documents you need to get a new yearly extension inside the country.

you can apply for a new yearly extension from amnesty on your expired extension without any problem.

Many people whose extension stamps ran out took the amnesty and then applied for their next yearly extension. In fact now if you apply for a yearly extension (or any extension) it will be dated from the 27th of Sept (the day after amnesty runs out)
