TLDR : Answer Summary
You cannot get a 30-day extension on your 60-day tourist visa upon entry. Extensions must be done at an immigration office within Thailand and usually require paying a fee (1900 baht) and bringing required documentation such as a passport-sized photo and TM 30 form for your current address in Thailand. It is advisable to go to the immigration office about 10 days before your visa expires. Different immigration offices may have varying rules on how early you can apply for the extension, so it's best to check specific locations.

Evans *******
Are shorts really not allowed?
Giorgio ******
@Evans ******
never heard of respect .

what's the problem to dress properly ???
Evans *******
@Giorgio *****
kind of a snarky answer. Actually, not even an answer. Just snarky. And useless.
Giorgio ******
@Evans ******
can always pretend you don't understand .

otherwise if you really don't understand the words " respect" , and " dress properly " . then do as you feel . and stop complaining about the consequences like so many people pretending to be "travelers" love to .!!!

@Giorgio *****
I understand perfectly, And I can also recognize when someone is an miserable, self-righteous, sanctimonious, pseudo-intellectual dickhead, desperate to spread the misery. Piss off.
Giorgio ******
@Evans ******
I can see you're expert being a dickhead yourself .

I've never seen a dickhead with hair myself .

but I can easily spot a dickhead or a skin head
Evans *******
Wow, a bald joke. How clever! Did you think that one up on your own, or did you have help? BTW, you might want to see one of these decades, dentist, buddy.

Just two days before the end of the 60 days, you have to go to renew and get an additional 30 days. This happened to me. I went 5 days before the end. The renewal office employee told me to check back two days before the end of the 60 days.

Phuket immigration told me 6 years ago that I’m too early to extend and i should come again in a week. I told them that i will be traveling and last time struggled together with a taxi driver to find the Nakhon ratchasima immigration office. It wasn’t a lie and i got the stamp. They’re just human and you can politely ask for an exception. While customs and immigration is the same in some countries, here it’s not and you can visit any immigration office without good to a border. I found that offices near tourist destinations have more English speaking staff
Giorgio ******
@Alain **************
in which country are customs and immigration are the same ? interesting to know
Alain ***************
@Giorgio *****
Switzerland. If you enter from the airport, i only remember to go through one thing. But quite a while ago since i entered

6 years is long ago in Thailand the immagraiton rules have changed so much. You get 60 days on arrival. You can travel anywhere you want and a few days before your 60 day visa expires go to any immigration office and get another 30 days. Pay 1900 bht and off you go. The hotel where you are staying is all you need with a current photo. Bingo off you go enjoy the land of smiles 😁
Greta *****
Are you Aussie?

@Greta ****
would that make difference I don’t think so

nope

Marty. A reminder to bring an extra passport size photo because when you go to immigration for the extra 30 days you’ll need that. And another for the next 60 plus 30. They use a glue stick to attach it to your application. Also have your TM 30 info (your address in Thailand for that application. Bring 1900 baht cash. Get there early because it’s like a DMV. Good luck Sir.

@Robert ****
so you are saying after the 60+30 day visa exempt it is ok to leave the country and return at least once to get another 60+30 days visa exempt stamp? please be true!?
Kace *******
statistically, what do you think the odds are of a back to back 60 + 30
Robert *****
@Kace ******
first time 100%. These border run companies do it everyday.
Luit *****************
@Kace ******
You always can try, there is no law against it, but it also is no right to get, so you will depend on immigration officer thinking you are tourist or not.
Robert *****
@Kace ******
yes. It’s true.
Doug ********
Of course not.
Aake **********
Customs has nothing to do with visas or residence permits, it takes care of immigration
Ralph *******
@Aake *********
No, immigration takes care of immigration. Customs is there to collect duty or stop contraband.
Mar *****
Immigration office inside Thailand Upto about 10 days before exit stamp date
Mar *****
@Chris ******
yeah well obviously but don't think they'd let you go for an extension with 55 days still remaining on entry stamp...

But doubt they'd grant extension with more then 10-14 days still left....
Stuart *********
@Mar ****
Some immigration offices will allow 45 days prior. Most are 30 days. Samui, Jomtien and Koh Phangan will only allow within 7 days.
Mar *****
Thanks
@Stu***
that's good to know...

😎👍🏽
James *******
No, get it done at your local immigration office.
Brandon ************
There is no "new" 60 day tourist visa. A tourist visa is and always has been 60 days, and you must apply for and pay for it from a Thai embassy before you travel.

Most likely you are asking about the new 60 day visa exempt, which is not any visa, it's just an entry stamp.

You can only get a 30 day extension of visa exempt at an immigration office. There is no immigration office in the airport.

Also customs has nothing to do with extensions. Customs is after immigration and after you pickup your bags.
Giorgio ******
@Brandon ***********
so many " travelers" will never know the difference between immigration and customs .

nor will they understand the word "visa" .
Augustus *******
@Brandon ***********
literally was in Thailand three months ago and was only issued single month visa which we extended towards end of the month.
Kim *********
@Augustus ******
you did not get a visa and apply your last paragraph on yourself
Brandon ************
@Augustus ******
there's so such thing as a single month visa. Tourist visa is and always has been 60 days and you have to apply for it before you travel. If you came to Thailand without a visa then you probably got visa exempt (which as I said is NOT a visa). That only changed from 30 to 60 days on July 15th, so if you entered Thailand before July 15th without a visa then you would have gotten a 30 day visa exempt stamp (not a visa, it's literally in the name, exempt from needing a visa).

There no new tourist VISA.
Augustus *******
@Brandon ***********
when we extended our visa, we were given one month extension…while the Americans in the group were given two months.

In the long past, when visa extension were only available with visa runs, occasionally the immigration office in samui would grant extensions.

In my experience the only hard and fast rule in Thailand when it comes to visas would be ‘ there are no hard and fast rules’

That’s why people ask questions, so they can navigate this ambiguity.

I suggest relaxing, repeat your new mantra of Sabai sabai and try not to get to upset…isn’t that why you are in Thailand?
Phil ******
@Augustus ******
you problem entered on a 30-day Visa Exempt (meaning stamped in with no visa) and extended for 30-days for ฿1,900.

There has never been a 30-day Visa.
Brandon ************
@Augustus ******
The only 2 month extension that exists in Thailand is a 60 day visiting Thai family extension. All tourist extensions are for 30 days. You're just talking out of your ass at this point and spreading a lot of false information which is exactly the opposite of what this group is about.
