If I arrive with a 6 months multiple entry visa, which normally means I leave every 60 days. But I was reading that with the 1 year visa which has a similar rule, you can just go to the immigration and report yourself after 90 days, they extend it. Is that also possible with the 6 months? Does anybody has experience? Would be lovely to share. I am german.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the 6-month multiple entry visa and its conditions compared to longer-term visa options like the 1-year visa. Key points include the inability to extend the 6-month visa simply through a 90-day reporting process, which is a requirement for longer-term visas such as Non-O. Members clarify that the 90-day report is simply for confirming your address and does not extend your stay, emphasizing the necessity to leave and re-enter the country for new visa stamps.

so, if you have a multi extension, no need to then buy re-entry permits?

ok

What confuses me is that on various sites some say you can get a non-O multi extension some say you cant. I'll find out for sure when I go to CM immigration this week.

you're possibly thinking of a multiple entry visa, each entry allows x days and you must exit the country by that time, you can then re-enter Thailand if the visa hasn't expired and you are stamped in again for x days. For non Imm visa it's 90 days stamped in, for METV tourist visa it's 60 days.

there is a multiple and single re-entry permit, there is a visa with multiple entry, no extensions come with reentry permits these are bought seperately from the extension, there is NO multi extension.

Mm, confusing question
@Peter *********
. There is no multi extension. When you have an extension of stay and you have to go out of Thailand, AND come back before that extension ends and want to keep the rest of the time from that extension alive, you need a single or multi re-entry permit.

you are mis-reading the rules of how a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant type visa works (Non-O, Non-B, Non-ED etc)

You get stamped in for 90 days, THEN when that 90 days is up you exit/re-enter to get another 90 day stamp

I think what you're confused about is a year long VISA <- that you get from a consulate before you come here and a year long EXTENSION <- that you get from the immigration office after you're here by meeting the requirements for the extension you're applying for. Extensions don't require you to leave the country every 90 days just do the 90 day reporting,

The one year multi entry that you mention is issued for marriage to a Thai or retirement (most common reasons), would you qualify? As for the multi entry tourist visa you can never be in the country for long enough to do a 90 day report. Also, the 90 day report is NOT extending your stay at all, it is merely reporting your address.

Also, seems worth mentioning that with the METV there's no need to leave every 60 days. With a local 30 day extension, each stay is closer to 90 days.

It is stressful indeed ๐Ÿ˜ƒ The valid reason to extend is "Tourism", btw. Have never had any problem with it.

Practically, one can only extend twice since (to my knowledge ) a METV has a 6 month validity period. The visa usage period will have expired. Example: leave Thailand after 60+30 days (=3 months). Return again the next day and do another 60+~ 29 days). In the last days of the 6 months usage period remaining on the visa one could leave again and re-enter the next day for a final 60+30 days giving a total cumulative period in Thailand of almost 9 months. I think the 3rd trip might be a bit stressful ๐Ÿ˜„

Also I assume a valid reason is necessary for the Immigration Office to grant an extension..or is it automatically entitled?
