TLDR : Answer Summary
To renew a 6-month visa with a requirement to leave every 60 days in Thailand, you can either extend your stay at an immigration office for an additional 30 days for a fee or leave Thailand to a neighboring country and re-enter, which starts a new 60-day entry period. This process can be repeated within the valid 6-month visa period.
, you need to understand there are two different things people are talking about.
One is when you border-bounce <- go to a border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country and then stamp back into thailand. As long as you are doing that prior to the "enter before" date on the VISA itself you will be stamped in for 60 days
The other one is the extension of stay that you can get on each 60 day entry at the immigration office for 1900baht IF you want to. That will be for 30 days.

If it's a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) you get 60-day entry, then can either extend it another 30 days at immigration OR leave Thailand and re-enter (free, except in some cases visa for neighboring country). The visa is valid for six months, meaning you can go and re-enter during that period. Even the end of validity you could still get another 60-day re-entry, with another possible 30-day extension.
