Hi everyone! I’ve tried to find the answer to my question in previous posts but unfortunately couldn’t find is. I am traveling to Thailand on a Tourist Visa beginning of April and would like to stay for around 5/6 months. Should I apply for a multiple entry visa since I will have to leave the country after 3 months (tourist visa + 30 day extension) or can I just apply for a single entry visa now, travel somewhere else after 3 months, and come back in on a 30 days permit?

I cannot figure out it is it needed to have a multiple entry visa for this. Hope someone can help me!

Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning to travel to Thailand on a Tourist Visa and wishes to stay for about 5-6 months. They are unsure whether to apply for a multiple entry visa, which would allow for a longer stay without leaving the country multiple times, or if a single entry visa will suffice, allowing them to exit and re-enter the country for additional time. Comments provide insights that they can consider applying for a multiple entry visa or a single entry visa with the option to extend their stay.

You can apply for a single entry visa. You can download the form from the thai embassy website must complete in blue ink.

Put phone number under picture on back page. I think the form is titled re entry permit

Many countries only use evisa, no need to download any form. Everything is done online

ok cool. Thanks for letting me know.

most European embassies now use the evisa system. You don’t fill in paper forms and you don’t send in your passport. It’s all done on line, with the visa sent to you via email. I do not know if the Dutch embassy uses this method as yet.

umm, you can't get a re-entry permit with just a tourist visa.

I don’t believe that’s true. Never tried but I can’t see why you couldn’t. You’d only get the original date stamped in for so I’m not sure why you would, but I believe you could.

You can apply for a multiple entry tourist visa (if your consulate will sell them - not all do). It would be valid for 6 months from the date of approval and on each entry you’d get 60 days (of which you could extend for a further 30).

You haven’t stated your nationality, but if from an approved country you can enter visa exempt, which would give you 30 days on entry - again extendable once for 30 days.

There is no limit on how many times you can enter (by air) on a visa exempt - apart from at some point an immigration officer may question why you are trying to do so. Whether that would happen is purely up to the immigration officer you hand your passport to on arrival.

that’s a smart idea. Will check the insurance requirement if this can work out. Otherwise the multi entry tourist visa sounds like the best option!

also thought about that but then I have to submit a hotel payment for 90 days already, and I’d rather move around a bit and see where I want to stay and for how long.

yeah that’s one of the drawbacks to that visa option-plus the insurance requirement.

Some have got around that by using a site that allows for cancellations - booked the accommodation and then changed it after getting the visa.

Thank you for explaining! Sounds like the best option for me then :)

Hi Stuart! Thank you for taking the time to clearify! So if I understand correctly, if I get a multiple entry visa, I can stay for 60 days, leave the country and get in again for 60 days again on the same visa?I’m just figuring out what would be the benefit of having a multiple entry visa for my case. I am Dutch, so I can also enter on visa exempt.

you can also get a STV, special tourist visa, good for three months, and then you can extend it twice, without having to leave Thailand. Consider that, as it fits what you want to do, and you don't have to leave the country to extend it like you have to do with any multi-entry visa

yes a multiple entry visa allows you to come and go as many times as you like within its validity period. If the last date on the visa is say 30th of July you can enter on that date and you would get another 60 days (extendable once for 30 days). You would have to observe other entry requirements (like the ThailandPass system currently in place) but in theory you can enter and leave 30 times (a made up number) if you wish on the same visa.

As a Dutch citizen you are entitled to entry visa exempt.
