Question about the 6 month multiple entry tourist visa : can I extend it at immigration every two months until the visa expires or once I extend it it’s the end of the visa ? Do I still need to leave after the extension to renew it ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 6-month multiple entry tourist visa (METV) allows for 30-day extensions at Thai immigration for 1,900 Thai Baht. However, after each extension, you must leave Thailand every 90 days, which can be done by traveling to another country or performing a border run. The METV is valid for 6 months from the issuance date, not your arrival date, and can only be obtained in your home country or where you hold a residence visa.

You can get a 30 day extension of stay each time you have the METV multiple entry tourist visa at your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht.

You must leave Thailand each 90 days...

Either visit another country for days or weeks...

Or border bounce out and re-enter Thailand same day...

Gets you a new 60 day stamp on arrival.

Up to and includes the last day of your METV multiple entry tourist visa.

Be sure to print out the Evisa email you received with the METV multiple entry tourist visa. Show it each time you arrive or seek to extend it.

The METV multiple entry tourist visa is VALID FOR 6 MONTHS FROM THE DATE IT IS ISSUED...

NOT 🚫 from the first day of your arrival into Thailand.

The METV multiple entry tourist visa is available ONLY in your home country... or a country where you have a residence Visa to live in that country.

You missed out there because if you do your final re-entry close to or on the date that it is valid for you'd get 60 days which could be extended for 30 days giving you close to 9 months in Thailand from just 2 border bounces (enter (60), extend (30), exit/re-enter (60), extend (30), exit/re-enter (~60), extend (30)).

you could have obtained a 30 day extension added to the 60 days you received on arrival into Thailand.
