I have tried to get a multiple entry 6 month visa but they turned me down and will give me a 90 day visa.

I want to be in Thailand for 120 days. On the 89 day, can I do a Myanmar border visa run and get a 45 day visa without any difficulty.

I can also leave and go to Loas for a few days and return.

I will arrive 11/10 and leave 3/10

Does this sound doable? and which way would you suggest.

thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has a 90-day visa to Thailand and is seeking advice on whether they can perform a border run to Myanmar to obtain a 45-day visa. Responses indicate that border crossings to Myanmar are currently closed, making a border run there impossible. Instead, they suggest bouncing between Thailand and other neighboring countries like Laos or Cambodia to achieve a longer stay. It's noted that the 90-day visa is a single-entry tourist visa, valid for entering Thailand, but only allows for a stay of up to 60 days unless extended.

@Bonny ******
. The visa you got is a Single entry tourist visa which is valid for 90 days to come into Thailand. Then you can stay 60 days ! (so not 90 days as many people think). So to stay in Thailand for 90 days, you need an extension of stay (30 days) first.

a very often misunderstood element the validity of the visa in other words how long you have to actually activate the visa so the OP thinks incorrectly he's got a 90 day tourist visa ( no such thing) he's got 60 days tourist visa but he has to use the visa within 90 days

Be that as it may, the answers to your questions are;

NOPE you can't bounce out and back with burma because all the land crossings with that country have been closed to foreigners entering/exiting for 2+ years now.

You wouldn't be doing a "visa run" <-which is where you go to a thai consulate in another country and BUY a visa, you're just talking about "border bouncing" <- going to the border, stamping out of thailand, in and out of another country and then right back in to thailand to get a new visa exempt entry.

You can bounce out and back at any of the other land borders with Cambodia, Malaysia or Lao.

Come in on a 45 day visa exempt, take your one 30 day extension on it for 1900baht, bounce out and back to get a new 45 day entry stamp, that's your 120 days,

No second thirty day extension? I was in bangkok on business last month for a week. Is the extension and new 45 day entry based on calendar year? If I came again next month. Could I do the full 120 days with a bounce or would last months stay count against me? I would initially get 75 days taking me into 2023. Of is there a 365 day look back?

you're confusing extensions and entries

You can get ONE 30 day extension PER visa exempt entry, that's it, then you're done. So come in get 45 day visa exempt and get one 30 day extension taking you to 75 days. Then you bounce out and back

You can get TWO visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year (Jan 1 to Dec 31)

you misunderstood. You can't get two 30 days extensions back to back. In other words, you can't do 45+30+30 in one entry to Thailand because you can't get the second 30 day extension within 1 entry. Once you leave and come back, it starts all over with your initial entry plus one extension.There's no look back, beyond the usual caveat that immigration always has the right to look at your stay history in deciding whether to grant extensions.

when you applied for the 6 month METV did you show that you were leaving thailand in 60 days and coming back? they state on the eVisa website if you don't show a reason WHY you need a multi-entry they'll sell you a 60 day single entry and keep the difference. you HAVE to show that you were leaving in about 2 months from your arrival and comin' back.

So just because a METV applicant has a booked ticket in, a ticket out and a ticket back in again about 2 months after the booked date of first arrival this is 'a tried and tested accepted reason' for an embassy who operates the eVisa system to grant a METV?

Aren't they interested in a specific reason why you want to return a second time, rather than the applicant just showing 'I have a ticket back in Thailand, that's my reason?'.

It hardly seems like a reason to the question you highlighted from the eVisa website as 'a genuine reason why you want to visit Thailand on a regular basis.'

It would suck to buy a ticket in, a ticket out and another ticket in, only to be declined a METV.

Common sense/non Thai logic tells me they want to know the actual reason why you want to come in and out multiple times and' because I have tickets' ain't gonna cut the mustard.
