Border run needed

===============

Hi there! My tourist visa expires on April 7. It’s been extended in Koh Samui, and I’ll have to leave the country for a border run in around two weeks. As Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia have closed their borders, to which South Asian country can I go (with a German passport)? Does anyone have experience with Laos or Vietnam? I only know that there’s no visa on arrival possible any more. Any advice is highly appreciated! Thx guys! 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on possible border run options as their tourist visa will expire soon. Due to border closures in neighboring countries like Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Myanmar, commenters provide mixed feedback about the situation, with many suggesting that options are limited and recommending a flight home instead. Discussions also mention requirements such as health certificates and insurance for re-entering Thailand, leading to uncertainty about border runs.

forget about taking lucky chances . . . border runs will definitely remain not possible for one more month, and other options are dying a daily death . . your best bet is, go on stand-by with your airline and fly back home ASAP. You could wait until the last day but chance then is that you will get hopelessly stuck

As somebody above mentioned, you have time (more than 2 weeks, actually even more bcos u can get 7 days extension).

Making any visa run at this point is almost impossible, forget about it. There is nowhere to go - only wait, or fly back home.

I am in same situation, my visa expires also 7th, and I decided to wait. They might start waiving overstays, and if not, you can always fly back home later...

For now the best option is to avoid all international travel as much as possible, for as long as possible.

do not assume overstays will ever be waived.

hang about, you certainly can see this is a volatile and fluid situation with these borders and countries.

Asking about what it's gonna be like in two weeks is getting the cart before the horse a little.

Ask closer to when you NEED to bounce and keep your eye on the news

it is only getting more harder to get a new short time visa in the S/E region, As it sound hard but I guess it is time to end the holiday, go home, wait it all out and when all is back to normal, come back for a new holiday

IDK bangkok to brunei? Not sure if it is possible. If it is possible It might be closed soon. I doubt you would want to be stuck in Brunei XD.

Laos closed. Not officially, but they cancelled VoA and eVisa, leaving the two Laotian consulates in Thailand to issue Visas, which they stopped to do.

You'll probably need a health certificate to get back in to Thailand. It might prove impossible to get.

I just did a covid 19 at srinakarin hospital in khon kean, as that was what the lady at the Laos consulate in khon kean, told me to do, to get the visa.

Well it was 6500bht and now I hear no visa is being issued.
