Can I do a border run to extend my spouse visa in December, and can I choose my renewal date?

I have a UK passport.

My spouse visa expires on 31st December each year - which is a pain with holidays etc.

This year I plan to leave on 7th January.

1) Is it possible to do a border run in middle of December and get stamped in for 30 days, or will they still stamp me in only until 31st December in line with my visa?

2) Is it possible to do my normal renewal in December, but get the visa to expire at a day of my choosing so long as it is less than 12 months (say 30th November) which would be much more convenient for annual renewals going forward?

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user with a UK passport inquires about the possibility of doing a border run in December to extend their spouse visa, which expires on December 31st. They want to know if they can receive a 30-day entry stamp upon returning or if they will be limited to their current visa expiration. Additionally, they ask if it's possible to renew their visa in December while selecting a more convenient expiration date for future renewals. Responses clarify that without a multiple entry visa or re-entry permit, leaving the country invalidates their extension, and they can only secure a short extension if their passport is expiring.

For peace of mind, head down to BluPort and ask the IO exactly the questions you posted here and get proper advice. I have found them always to be helpful.

1) If you do not have a multiple entry visa, or a re-entry permit, your extension will be nullified by you leaving the country and when you return you'll be stamped in visa exempt.

2) the only way to get a short extension is if your passport expires during the 1 year of the extension. Then you'll only get the extension until the passport expiration date

Thanks - sorry I do have a multiple entry visa. So was wondering if I would get 30 days, or just until 31st December, as per every other time I enter Thailand.

if you have a multi re-entry permit then they'll most likely stamp you in on that
