Can I do a border run to Mai Sai for a 30-day visa exempt after extending my METV?

Hi Guys, I'm about to go to immigration and extend my last METV 60 day entry (gained on land entry at Mai Sai in January 2020 - METV visa now expried), which should take me to mid April if they extend for 30 days.

Now I may require to stay on another month it two after the extension expires. I'm assuming that as I've only done one land entry this year, I should be able to do a border hop again at Mai Sai in April and get a 30 day visa exempt, which I can extend again in Mid May all going well. My concern is that I will have been in Thailand over 7 months in April and worry that they may not let me back in to Thailand. My questions is: If I go to the border say 1 week before my extension expires, will they allow me to leave over the border if they are not intending to give me a 30 day visa exempt and allow me back I to Thailand. I'm thinking, If they inform me before I leave Thailand over the border that they wont give the visa exempt, at least I will have a week left on my extension to tie things up. If they don't inform me before hand, I would be trapped in Myanmar and all the hassle that would cause Sith all my things back at my hotel. Sorry for bei g so long winded but I thought I'd give all the facts. By the way I'm from UK and have a long history of METV but mostly just stayed a few months in previous years. Your advise would be much appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice regarding the possibility of doing a border run at Mai Sai to obtain a 30-day visa exempt after extending their METV visa, which is set to expire soon. They express concern about the implications of being in Thailand for over seven months and whether they would be allowed back in after leaving for a border run, seeking confirmation on the policies and their options.

Good Luck Derek...

You have good advice from several helpful members. Safe travels.

BTW...be sure to bring a crisp US $10 bill or 500 Thai baht in CASH...to pay for your Myanmar Day Pass.

You can get two 30 day visa exempts by land in a calendar year. I believe Mai Sai border only sells day passes to Myanmar, so Thai immigration can not let you out of Thailand without letting you back in.

that will be great if that is the case. I just worry they may let me out and then won"t let you back in again. After all, it's one set of immigration officers whi let hou stamp out and another IO who will let me back in.

You can apply first for a 30 day Extension of Stay and as you wrote you can make a border run before the last day to get a new 30 day Visa Exempt Entry.

I think this calendar year 2020 you did not pass any land border without a visa, you may did border runs to activate new 60 day periods of stay using your multiple entry tourist visa

It is today 9 of march, just 2 months and 9 days into this year and you managed to use a 6 months valid metv and two 30 days visa exempt entries in this short time?
