Can I leave Thailand and return on a 30/45 day visa after my retirement visa expires?

Hi and good morning. I’m here (British) on a retirement visa which runs out in February. I am leaving Thialand for a year and have business issues here that I need to sort out prior to leaving. Basically I need slightly longer than my visa expire date is, so my question is, can I leave, say to Cambodia, then come back for a month or so on a 30/45 day visa before I then leave permanently, if that all makes sense.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A British expat on a retirement visa expiring in February is considering leaving Thailand for a year but needs additional time before departure. The expat asked if they could temporarily leave for Cambodia and return on a 30/45 day visa. Other community members confirmed that they could border bounce to obtain a longer stay in Thailand, with one suggesting a Laos border for a smoother process and another noting that extending the visa for an additional year might be cheaper than border bouncing.

It’s 1900 baht to extend for a year so surely cheaper than border bounce & travel.

If the money is still in yur bank you only need the it to get your 12m extension then move it, better than spanding thousands on a border bounce

remove it after as it’s very unlikely that they will check after & you have the time

surely you would lose more doing that than it would cost to do a visa run by exchanging the Baht 2 times no ?

not exactly difficult to do. They want you to show you have survival income.

Yes you can border bounce and get 45 days visa exempt entry. Of preference I’d use a Laos border over a Cambodian one. To ensure a smooth bounce use a “visa run” company.

It depends where you are in the country and which border. A guess would be between 2-5k.

Ok so close to a border. Ask in a local Facebook group to see what people recommend
