hi! (uk passport holder) so mid april - may i arrived on 30 days, extended by 30 but had 2 days overstay & paid the fine (local immigration closed & i had to travel to the nearest one), then did cambodia for 30days, and came back to thailand for another 30. im now doing 45 days in vietnam and plan to return to thailand so i can be there for november & christmas, but want to stay as long as possible. what is the earliest date i can return? assuming i need to do 1 more country before i can return, if im wanting to be there for christmas time, and with the 60days on arrival, does this mean you can extend it to 90? thank you! 🙏🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK passport holder shares their recent travel experience with Thai visas, mentioning an initial 30-day entry followed by a 30-day extension, a 2-day overstay, then a trip to Cambodia and another 30 days back in Thailand. They seek advice on the earliest return date and duration options for staying in Thailand over Christmas. Responses highlight that with the new 60-day visa exemption, they can potentially extend their stay to 90 days, suggesting a planned return around October 1st to ensure an extended stay without overstaying.

To reach Christmas without entering two extra times, you could aim to enter around October 1st. Use 60 day exemption and extend by 30 days. It's indeed prudent to not enter just yet if you want to reach that, because you'd otherwise be staying longer than they might accept on tourism-purposed visas/alternatives.

After the 60 you can go to immigration and get another 30 for 1900 baht. Get there early it’s like DMV

thank you🙌 so are you still only aloud in 180 days a year or is that scrapped now with the new visas ?

Hi Molly yes with the new 60 days and extension then for a further 90 days it means you can get 90 days here. Plus there is no limit on the amount of land border crossings anymore either so in theory you could 60 then instead of paying 1900 to extend you could just pop to Cambodia visa run for 4000 and have a further 60 days and then extend at immigration for 30.

This is all dependant on the immigration officers but the land border ones Cambodia are only interested in getting the cash they get from the organised visa run trips.

thank you for this! yes that helps! i just didn’t know whether they’ll be funny about letting me back in as i have an overstay on my record, so by your calculations, technically i could return to thailand after vietnam right ? i just don’t want to return too early, then they don’t let me extend, as i have things booked for over christmas time 🙌
