Hi all, I am asking for my husband.

He recently converted to Non-B visa (from a tourist visa) but has not made a work permit yet as he will turn down the job offer and is planning to use Non-O visa (Thai wife). Would it be possible to convert to Non-O visa from Non-B without exiting Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The husband's current Non-B visa cannot be converted to a Non-O visa without exiting Thailand, as it was issued based on employment, not marriage. He must either wait for the 90 days of the Non-B visa to expire and then leave Thailand to re-enter on a free entry stamp or apply for a Non-O visa at a Thai consulate.

nope not on the initial 90 day Non-B visa/stamp he got when he went from a tourist visa to the Non-B visa based on employment

He can't change that visa to any other type and he can't get an extension based on marriage from the Non-B either (because you have to get the first extension for the reason the visa was issued and it wasn't issued based on marriage to a thai)

He certainly can stay the 90 days he is stamped in for until that runs out, (that can't be cancelled)

If he wants to switch to a Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai, he exits to get OFF this 90 day Non-B stamp, re-enters on a free entry stamp (if he comes from a country that gets those) and then applies for the in country Non-O visa at the immigration office by meeting the requirements

OR

he goes to a thai consulate nearby and gets a 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on marriage

I only want to ask for my own clarification. Non-O requires the person be 50 or over, regardless. I’m seeing considerable discussion recently not acknowledging if they are not 50 or over non-O is not applicable. This post does not reference age either.

Am I wrong?

Sorry to hijack. 🙏

the marriage to a Thai visa does not require you to be age 50+.

okay, thank you very much for clarification. No wonder people (like me) have confusion.

, so-called "Non-O" covers various reasons and each has different requirements.

see this now. Suggests alternate names would be practical but what is, is. 🙏

the "O" stands for Other so it covers a multitude of purposes

I’m learning this but until now just didn’t understand the meaning of O or OA exceeded the scope of ‘retirement’ visas.
