TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about the possibility of switching their Non-O visa (for spouses) obtained in Savanaket to a Non-B visa while remaining in Thailand. Comments clarified that while direct switching is not possible, a change from an extension of stay based on marriage to one based on employment is feasible. Furthermore, the user mentioned being on amnesty and having received a job offer, seeking advice on the best course of action.

I had a multiple entry non O visa ( have to leave the country every 3 months and not been able to ) so technically yes I am on amnesty and planning to get the 60 days extension next week.

Now I have been offer a job. I am not sure what would be the best way forward assuming my employer is willing to do my non B visa and work permit.

one last question please. Where do I go to get the 60 days extension based on family? CW office or Muang tong Tani

To my knowledge, you can not go from amnesty to an extension of stay based on employment.

I *believe* you can go from a 60 extension of stay based on visiting Thai family to an extension of stay based on employment.

Have you gotten your 60 extension of stay based on visiting Thai family yet?

No I have not done the 60 days extension based on family yet.

So if I understand correctly. I should to my extension based on family, then during the 60 days extension apply for a Non-B ?

I *BELIEVE* you can; you would be able to go on a hard stamp. I'm not sure where you are from, but if you are making 40K THB a month or more, you may be able to get an extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai national.

I hold a British passport. 40k per month should not be an issue.

Yes I believe I will get the extension of stay based on marriage, no issue there I hope.

But can I get a one year Non-B visa while on the extension ? Or even renew my Non O visa? I am trying to avoid leaving the country after the 60 days extension.

Visas are acquired outside of Thailand. You do *NOT* want a Non-O visa, or a Non-B visa. What you want is an extension of stay based on marriage, or an extension of stay based on employment. Both of these extensions are renewable and let you stay in Thailand for one year.

An extension of stay based on visiting Thai family is good for 60 days, and will put a "hard stamp" in your passport. It should be post-dated September 27, letting you stay until middle of November.

To get an extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai national, you need to make 40K THB a month. To get an extension of stay based on employment, you need to make 50K THB a month.

Ok. Thanks. Noted about the visa.

So my best option is to apply for an extension of stay based on family for 60 days, then apply for another extension based on employment for a year...did I understood properly ?

That's right! Or an extension of stay based on visiting family for 60 days, and apply for another extension based on supporting a Thai wife.

Am I able to apply for a work permit and work on the 60 days extension based of family ?

I don't recall seeing anything that says "employment prohibited" on this type of extension of stay, and your visa isn't an employment prohibited visa either.

@Benjamin *****
thank you very much for your guidance. Much appreciated.

Hope the info can be useful to other members of the group.

Can you switch visas? No.

IF you have an extension of stay based on supporting a Thai wife, you CAN change that to an extension of stay based on employment.

Are you currently on amnesty?
