Hi, I am hoping to get some visa advice.

I am marrying my Thai next year and will change my visa from Non immigrant B to O.

Q1: Can this be done in Thailand? Or will I need to leave the country? And what documents will I need to do this please?

Q2: If I want to change jobs, would it be better/easier to still be on my current non immigrant B? Or should I change to a non immigrant O before changing employers?

Thanks a bunch for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on switching their visa from Non-Immigrant B to O after marrying a Thai citizen. They have two main questions: whether this change can be done within Thailand or if they need to leave the country, and the necessary documents for this process. Additionally, they want to know if it is better to remain on their current non-Immigrant B visa when changing jobs or to switch to a Non-Immigrant O visa first.

Okay, IF you are on a yearly extension of stay you CAN change the reason for your extension from employment to marriage.

You take a letter from your company stating it is okay to cancel your current extension of stay, and all the documentation you would need for an extension based on marriage and go to the immigration office. They would cancel your extension based on employment and you would immediately apply for a new extension based on marriage to a thai national.

You would get a 30 day under consideration stamp and then go back in a month to get the year extension inked into your passport.

, you are NOT on ANY Non-B visa anymore :/ That visa expired a LONG time ago. You are now on an extension of stay based on employment. (look in your passport, your stamp says extension of stay permitted until xxx date <- that is NOT a visa).

You are only changing the reason for your extension, from employment to marriage, once you change it to marriage it doesn't matter if you work or don't work, your extension isn't based on employment but marriage.

Sorry if I don't get the obvious, but if I change jobs after changing the reason for my extension, and I have a gap in between the two jobs, my non B will still be valid and I will be able to stay in Thailand without having to leave the country?

, there is NO need for you to change to a Non-O visa, :/ You would just need to change the reason for your extension from employment to marriage (and you can still keep working just fine on that type of extension).

the reason why I thought changing visa was a good idea is because my understanding is that if I resign, my non B will be cancelled, and I would need to leave the country in a certain amount of time.

If I change my visa to a non O, would that give me more flexibility with regards to changing jobs?

If I change the reason for my extension of stay to marriage, what happens when I resign?

Extension of stay based on employment. Work does the 90 day reports for me.

Are you on a yearly extension of stay based on employment from the immigration office OR are you on a visa where you exit/re-enter the country every 90 days?
