TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a Non-B visa in Thailand, set to expire mid-November, and seeks to switch to a Non-O visa due to being married to a Thai national and having a child. The community discusses the possibility of changing the extension of stay from employment-based to marriage-based without leaving Thailand and outlines the process, including the necessary documentation and requirements such as a financial statement. Key advice includes applying at least 30 days before the expiration of the current visa and the need for certain financial prerequisites.

You can switch 'extentions of stay' just by meeting the requirements, for an extention based on marriage the main requirement is 400,000bt in a Thai bank or 40,000bt per month income

@Kim *****
also you're not changing from non B to non O, you're changing the reason for your 'extention of stay'

apply up to 30 days before extention is due. 400,000 needs to be seasoned in a Thai bank account for 2 months prior to applying.

While you can't change a non-B VISA to a non-O VISA inside the country you CAN change the REASON for an extension of stay from one based on employment to one based on marriage to a thai :)

SO you can do it.

You would take a letter from your employer stating they have no problem with you canceling your extension based on employment and applying for one based on marriage

You would meet ALL the requirements to get a yearly extension based on marriage

You would GO to the immigration office and cancel your extension based on employment and immediately apply for a NEW yearly extension based on marriage to a thai.

The immigration office will cancel your current extension and give you a new "under consideration stamp" for 30 days based on marriage, THEN when that runs out you go back to the immigration office and get the year extension inked into your passport.

Take your thai wife, GO out to the immigration office, get the hand out that lists what's required to get a yearly extension based on marriage, then get those documents together and you can do it when ever you want right up until the date your current extension expires if you want to.

@Kim *****
you're mistaken about the social security they still pay on 4 staff for you, but that's nothing to do with the extension
Tod *********
you do NOT need a Non-O visa because all you are doing is changing the reason for your extension from work to marriage.

It's done ALL the time..

I think what you really are on is an "extension of stay" from the immigration office

how about you look IN your passport at your current stamp and see if directly under the location of the office it says "extension of stay permitted until" and has a date on it of November?

Note: you can still keep a work permit on a spouse visa/extension.
