What's the best time to apply for a DTV visa??

I'm flying to Vietnam next week to sort this out. Is it best to apply online before I leave? And if so, how long before?

Or do I have to start the whole process after I've already left Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The best time to apply for a DTV visa is after you have left Thailand, as you can't apply online while already in the country. It's advised to apply from your home country or a nearby Thai consulate. Trying to apply while in Thailand can lead to potential issues with immigration.

Ok, so the best time is 11:04 on a Sunday, this is reflected by the fact that most people are hung over from the night before and or eating breakfast.

Haha

Joking aside, my advice is only apply if outside of the country. Immigration will get wise to the abuse very fast are start refusing. They can see when application made, see you where in the country and can put 2+2 together and refuse entry for not following the application process.

So my advice is leave the country and apply.

If you apply online I think you would be ok if out of the country when application made, and came back even if the answer not given yet. As the actual application would be following the rules. But it’s so new and so many different abuses currently being used it will take them days, weeks possibly months to catch up with all the ways it can be abused. Some will be picked up faster, like the amount of time the money needs to be in your account. At the start it just needed to be in there, now it’s between 1 and 6 months depending on embassy.

That will become a standard 6 months I reckon.

yeah, that's what i was thinking. but found out I can't do it online anyway. Because Vietnam isn't on the evisa website or something

Vietnam will be on the e-visa system by next month.

you can't apply online before you leave, 🙁

you have to be IN your country to use the eVisa online system,

if you're already here, you need to go to a nearby thai consulate and apply for the DTV

okay, thank you for the info. And am I right in saying that at the moment it only takes a few days to process?

I'm a little confused. As i'd seen someone mention they had to book an appointment at the consulate or something two weeks in advance. i wanna make sure I'm booking enough accommodation etc before I start paying for things

@George *****
make sure you go to what ever consulate you're going to apply at website and READ the requirements for the DTV carefully because they're not the same.

reports are HCMC is not that hard core (they're no nonsense but not hard core) 🙂

ah, ok. i think this must be how I got confused. I knew I'd seen someone say something about booking in advance for Vietnam. it must have been this appointment

And unfortunately, I couldn't get a flight direct to HCMC before my current visa ended. So I went for Hanoi instead. Read a couple of peoples posts about it. And it doesn't sound too bad either. Fingers crossed

Anyway, really appreciate your help and all the links. Big help

Apply in vietnam before the end of the month. They are moving to Evisa in October and it will take up to 30 days to get the visa. 2 days now with in-person in consulate.

sincerely good luck with it sir, safe travels

report back about how it went in Hanoi if you would

Now hang about

If you're going to go to one of the two thai consulates in Vietnam and apply for a DTV in person (because those consulates are NOT on the eVisa system)

You WILL need to book an online appt before because you can't get in the gate without it

Most all consulates have this on their website about the eVisa system,

This is just the example from the UK

@Tod ********
Hypothetically - if one was currently in Thailand but going to the Uk in 2 weeks…. And one was to start the online application before leaving Thailand….

How would they know

And would they care?

this is what confused me. I'd seen a couple of people talk about sorting out the application before they left. Wasn't sure what the best way was
