Hi I am planning to apply for an additional 30 days. I'm in Chiang Mai and I got a tm30 from my landlord today but I'm going to Hui Hin and phuket for a couple of weeks traveling. My current exempt expires March 15. My question is whether I can apply for an extension in Hua Hin or will it be a problem. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibility of applying for a 30-day extension of their visa in Hua Hin, as their current visa exemption expires on March 15, despite their TM30 being filed in Chiang Mai. According to responses, it is generally acceptable to apply for an extension at any immigration office, including Hua Hin. However, it is recommended to obtain a TM30 from the hotel in Hua Hin or ensure your current TM30 is acknowledged during the process. Experiences shared indicate that different immigration offices may have varying policies regarding TM30 checks.

I have always applied for extensions in the same location that I have my TM30 (that may not be a requirement). I think you can get several if you felt the need. I mean, go to Phuket and get a new TM30. The hotels are suppose to do that for you so you may want to check with them. Different Immigration offices have different policies about when you can apply for extension so you can plan based on that. Last extension I got was in December from Phuket,

We was at the immigration today in bluport HH. They had us fillout a slip with address (hotel/house) and asked for passport and 1900 baht We had eveeything else ready (tm30, bank statement to be sure) never asked for anything, not even TM7 .That was a 30 day extension ontop of a visa exemption

Do they even ask for / check TM.30 with the regular 30 day extension? For

Covid extensions they do - but

for the regular

30-day extension? Probably - like unfortunately always in Thailand depends on the individual immigration office / officer.

Philip Rossignol. It's to highlight the immigration stance that they're doing people a "favour" by granting covid extensions, and that they have discretionary powers (although the same can be said about the usual 30-day extensions, which are also discretionary but it seems never denied)

I can only speak for Phuket

There no COVID extension was refused on tourist or exemption on condition your address was registered in Phuket Untill further notice it will be like that till

Frank-Steven Eichholtz. I know what you mean about the covid extensions but it seems immigration has a firm view on this, if this report earlier today is anything to go by

I may have a slightly deviating opinion on who is doing whom a favor when it comes to covid extensions. But that is beyond the point of this post. 😉

@Frank-Steven **********
they don't ask for it

It's a right

COVID extension is a favour ( there are flights every day 😁 ) and depends on the officer but in general if you are registered and on tourist visa or exemption is always accepted

If this is first extension you don't have to be registered and can do in any immigration office For the law you have to be registered within 24 hours of arrival in Thailand however 😎

last thing i heard a few days ago was still 24 hours. I'm on holiday now, will ask wednesday but they don't make much problems if it's done too late. Owner can be fined 2.000 thb

according thai law you ( or your landlord/ hotel ) must register you within 24 hours but immigration generally don't ask for it for 1st 30 days. I know many years ago, i needed a letter from my hotel to extend. In Phuket they don't ask for it. They ask for Covid extension however

i thought you must register everywhere you stay

You apply at the immigration office that your TM30 is filed.

However if you’re staying in a hotel in Hua Hin then they’ll file one for you. Ask for a screenshot of their filing it and use that for the extension. Some immigration offices don’t ask for the TM30 on tourist or exempt entries. I do not know the policy of the Hua Hin office.
